Moloney - drop him this week?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Personally, I think yes.

I'm a great fan of his game, and was a strong advocate for him to return to the side this week but....

His ill-disciplined act cost us plenty of momentum at a time when the aggression wasn't needed. Also, he needs to develop another string to his bow, long kicking won't work any more and hes too predictable, his handballing seemed a bit dodgy (not alone here I know) and a bit time in the 2's ironing some of this stuff out would be beneficial I reckon. I still don't think hes 100% fit either.

I'd be tempted to recall Garland (on the back of his BOG), Buckley, Valenti or even Yze in his place.

Miller for Neitz, and Bate for Whelan as the other two changes.

Personally I'd like to keep him in the team. We all know he's not THAT crap, but I think if we want him to be an integral part in the team we can't keep omitting and selecting him. I know we don't do that already but I feel if we start this week we'll be heading down that track. He's not a depth player, he's a required player IMO so with that being said keep him in there

Moloney should stay IMO

Valenti promoted and IN

If Valenti is not promoted then something is wrong because Bails said he wants to see all his players perform by round 6 to determine the way forward. We have supporters of other teams coming on to our Board telling us that Valenti is the next Sam Mitchell, Valenti is the best player in the VFL etc etc and not to give him this opportunity immediately would be acting against the best interests of the Melbourne Football Club IMO.

the only reason i can see for valenti not being promoted this week is a possibly injury. maybe a hamstring strain or corkie that would keep him out for a week. other than that there is no excuse

Has to go, is unacountable and was caught out several times on the southern stand wing last weekend. Not sure if it is fitness but he is not running hard enough.

Who are you talking about? Valenti or Moloney? Both are hard running

well seing valenti didnt play last wek you would assume Moloney. Dont think he should be dropped, Garland has shown he is not upto AFL standard do not pick him. I would love to see Valenti get a go (in for wheelan) Miller in for Nietz. Bate has only played 1 game for Sandringham 1's he may possibly play one more and be back round 7 at the G.

keep him in, at worst we need to maximise some trade value for him, at best he finds some form and we keep him.

He played almost exactly the same sort of game against the Hawks as he did against Carlton - got plenty of it but gave away stupid free kicks and he can't chase or man up for peanuts. I like his aggression but he needs to learn to choose the right times to do it.

I wouldn't mind seeing Valenti coming in for him, going with Miller for Neitz and Bate for Whelan.

No.

There is no point playing a guy for one game then dropping him. At least give him 2-3 matches to show something.

Stupid thread.

The unfortunate reality is that even if we did drop him it would make no difference what so ever, his problem is more complicated than that IMO. He is 24 years old and has over 60 AFL games under his belt, the guy should be reasonably level headed by now. It is a mental issue with Moloney as much a discipline issue. When he does some of these stupid things he is doing it because he is trying to do the right thing but he just doesn't think. The same goes with his tackling and kicking. He doesn't over kick because he wants to munt the kick he does it because logical thought is taken over by over-intent in the heat of the game. Same as stupid tackles in the back which are generally unforgivable. I also think he lost it way too easily with the umpire as well in the Carlton game.

TBH I don't know what the solution is. He deserves to be dropped but he genuinely is a hard player who does try in the middle of the ground. Having said that I really don't think Moloney is part of where we want to go direction wise as a team. What he did on the weekend was absolutely pointless and the kind of thing you would expect from a younger player when he is getting beaten by his opponent and the team is down by 10 goals.

Moloney was possibly our best on against Hawthorn and i thought pretty good against Carlton except for one major mistake (which we all know about) but how is he supposed to get over it if no one else can. He was a pivital point in a lot of our goals and his running and support was very strong in the middle he just doesn't cover the distance of some guys. Keep him in and give Yze a crack as well

I'd much rather play Moloney then a clown like Warnock. Why pick up a player at 23 then play him in only 2 games all year in a year where you win 5 games??? Warnock is a VFL star and nothing more, he was a mistake to draft in the first place and should not be given a game over the likes of bate, dunn, garland, newton.

We need newton at full forward after his suspension, dunn at centre half forward, frawley at full back. either carrol adapts to playing on the third tall or him and his mo can go back to WA.

Give Frawley a chance. Can anyone honestly say that the 10 minutes Frawley spent on Fev were not 10 times better then the rest of the game Carroll spent on him? and Frawley was one on one where as Carroll always had someone dropping back. Carroll is not the future, adapt or leave.

Maloney is a good player and Maloney has aggression and Maloney should play and Maloney sounds like Baloney which is a type of meat which is what Maloney treats the opposition like - all in all Maloney will always be Maloney.

P.S. Maloney's Dad's last name is Maloney and his Mum's last name is Maloney too but it wasn't Maloney before Mrs Maloney married Mr Maloney (who are Maloney's parents)

Sorry Dez, couldn't help myself mate :D

P.S.S Are you a teacher? Or was your teachers name Maloney by any chance? :D

I'm not a huge fan of Buckley. Makes a lot of mistakes but that can be cured by time in 1's. I'd like to see few some new players before Buckley goes back in. He was rubbish against the Hawks.
