Otto won an AA at Richmond, a far cry from the melbourne "leadership" group ....
My point exactly Candiehappy, thanks for the chop out. Some guys are just so star struck, that they cant take on board alternative opinions. This bloke sounds like that clown "Teach!

Not suggesting that we have him back by any means, but more so suggesting that some of the dismissive criticism of him here is a little over the top. He wound up in the wrong environment and could have been as good as Kelly had he stayed here.

The discussion is not about "what Moloney may have been" but "what he is now" and his relative value to the Geelong Football club next year.

I would suggest that he has very little value and would only take a spot that could be filled by a younger player with more promise.

I think you've just put him out of a job, "at least on this board", when I hear out of the horses mouth I listen!

But, can you tell me about Rivers and Gysberts IYO.

Rivers, i have never really rated that highly. Had one of his best years though this season. Plays best in defence when he can play a lose man role and cut across leads, has plenty of courage. Occasionally plays a blinder on a tall forward when isolated against him, but more often than not gets burnt. Very hard for me to say whether this is because our backline is under constant pressure (so many forward 50 enteries against). Suggest he would find it much easier with Geelong's defence giving him a chop out on occasions and your midfield's far superior pressure at opposing teams trying to enter forward 50. At Melbourne we just let opposing mid's waltz in and deliver the ball on a platter. I feel sorry for our backline most of the time. His disposal is 50/50. Not the type of guy you want delievering the ball under pressure. Slightly better kick than Tom Lonergan.

Gysberts, slight of frame, much in the same vein as Cale Morton, dont know if he will ever put on an AFL body. As youre probably aware he has no trouble finding the ball (30 touches against Geelong in his debut game), but his disposal on occasions can let him down (think Joel Corey) . He isnt the type of player who relies on others to get him the ball despite being slight of frame, he is an in and under type. Much prefer him handballing and linking up rather than deliering the ball to forwards. Lacks a bit of leg speed but his endurance is pretty good. Has had various injury problems over the past 2 seasons. Think the talent is there, just dont know if Melbourne is the place to get it out of him. Personally, i think he would thrive in a stronger midfield such as Geelong's and would be an apt replacement for Joel Corey.

Not sure about that. Plenty of lower sides still have great players. Ablett has shown quite vividly you can maintain your own high standards even when the side you play in is complete rubbish. Personally I think too much emphasis is placed on the surroundings, ultimately it's up to each individual player to get the most out of himself. If they don't they're just not good enough.
That's very true for the great players, but only the greats who have constructed a great attitude. I daresay that if Ablett had been at a lesser club than Geelong from 2006-2007, he never would have received the kick up the derriere necessary to turn him from good to great.
