In the end the gamble didn't work out but the logic was sound by Renault and Ricciardo.
Sound? They knew they would be coming out behind some.of the backmarkers that would be on mediums.until lap 50 and were completely at the mercy of the pace they were setting.

And to.make matters worse they knew one of those teams could take them out of the race and get themselves the prized best of the rest 6th in the process.

It would have been a sound decision if.they had come.out in front of Norris and stroll, it was a brain dead decision if they knew they couldn't.

no it wasnt. The logic was heckin'g stupid. Track position is everything. You stay out on track until your opponent behind pits, then you do the exact same. Its not rocket science.
