Its that time - Season is over:( .

A couple of things I've decided (hell its my game:D )

1) People have until the end of September (Monday 30th) to nominate that they will take part in the competiton next year. Anyone who fails to nominate then will lose control of their team.

2) Because the official AFL trade period begins on the 24th of October, the official M.P.F.L trade period begins on the following Monday 28th October to give everyone a reasonable look to where their players will end up. On this Monday, I'll start a thread on the Games board to continue for at least a month for people to trade players from their sides. Draft picks may also be traded. More information will be given before hand.

3) The M.P.F.L National Draft will occur around January, given the fact the National and Pre-Season Drafts are on 24 November and 17 December repectively. Mid January seems the likely time, with everyone back from Christmas Holidays, and this also gives us a chance to do the draft through BigFooty, rather than submitting lists like last year.

I'm still a bit undecided on the trade period particulars, so if anyone has any ideas, let us know.

Anyway, here's the final round of scores.

I'm going to post a thread on the Games Board for people to nominate for the draft. If anyone is interested in taking part next year, then nominate here, or wait for the other thread.

On the trading period, its probably silly to do it before the main draft, as you could lose your player to delisting or retirement before then.....the main cull happens just prior to the draft, so any trades for semi-fringe players you might make end up with you a player short.

Encouraging end to the season, 4th highest score overall. Watch out next year Chuck are certain finalists with all the youngsters having another preseason under there belt, and also i'll have a bit better luck with injuries. Ive also got a few trades in mind (looks at Porthos to see if he wants his interested in signing the No.1 ruckmen in the comp and his own teams captain)

Just an idea with the way the draft may go, maybe we can incorporate last years draft order in some way. Just say if a coach delists there 1st round pick from last year, they will get the first pick in the draft, if there the highest pick that is dropped. Dont know if its a good idea, just throwing up an idea. I also think priority picks for Brisbane and Kangaroos are a good idea as well.

Cheers

I actually think this idea has merit, not sure about the other coaches.

You did better than me, I had 5 losses for the year.

The Bulldogs will be back bigger and better next year. If anyone is looking for trades then come to me during the trade period. I have some players who you would be interested in.

I'd rather stick with the Delist 5 from each 10 idea....this is messier to organize, and doesn't help much with bringing worse teams into it. It becomes a way for top sides to perfect their lists.

I don't really like the 5 from each 10 idea, some 'groups' of 10 may have 6-7-8, whatever, players being delisted/retiring from their real teams. A coach in this situation may have a strong first 10 but a weak 30 after that, I'd prefer if we could keep our core group.

Its seems a hell of alot easier if we just pick completley new teams.

Either that, or

a) We have no trade period, or
b) We have a trade period, but no trading of draft picks.

We have a fair amount of time left, and I agree with Porthos, the trade period should be after the Pre-Season draft. Maybe a two-four week trade period before the draft in January, then once that's finished, go straight into the draft. The season itself won't start until the end of March, which is a lot of time.

Can you think of any that would, and wouldn't be delisting/retiring those players for another go in the draft anyway?

I think keeping our current teams is a must. Makes it a lot more interesting. I think we should definatly have a trade period, option b is probably a good idea.

If we have the draft before the trade period, doesnt that mean there wont be many players in the draft. Or will we delist players before the draft? If this is the case we wont get the opportunity to trade some of our current players.

Maybe its a good idea to do the trade period ASAP, before any official AFL trading and drafts. This does pose the problem that team lists will change due to retirements and delistings, but this would be minimal as a lot of the retirees have already retired, and who would want to pick up a player who is on the fringe of being delisted. A lot of these players are probably without a club at the moment anyways. Hope that all makes sence.

Heres how it could run.

-With current lists we have a trading period prior to any offical AFL trading period and drafts. We would trade our current players to other clubs.
-We would then trim our lists to a set number, or maybe there should be no set number, and the coaches decide how many.
- All players who have been delisted would then enter the draft, along with all the players who will be picked up in the national and pre season drafts.
- We then run a draft, and by the end of this all teams should have 30 players (or whatever the number per club will be)

To clarify, here is the structure being talked about

Rushing it would be silly because people can get caught out again on something totally beyond control, like an unexpected retirement. The structure above looks workable.

So how exactly does that give enough of a chance to bottom sides to make a competitive list? The trading sees no net improvement for a Brisbane, and with no quality required to be delisted to enter the draft, there's no realistic way they could be a contender.

That would make sense, still hella confused though.
