i think bird is a potential captain
this time last year i was spruiking malch as a real candidate to be installed long-term captain, and i see bird as being a possible deputy to him before taking over down the track
i'm not sure who criticises him, or why ... he's so composed, never seems flustered
yes, he makes some errors with disposal, and has been caught with the ball a bit, but that will iron out with time and experience
he's got super hands, i have nothing but great praise for his season and i am excited at his progress

Bird has got a real Kirk and Kelly quality to him and those 2 players didnt show their true potential for years. Bird has done some great tings this seasons (that goal against Collingwood springs to mind) as i expect him to be a great player in afew years time.

bird looks to be good in close. fast with his hands, he has laid off some very quick and instinctive handballs this year to running players.

another preseason in the gym and he should start to find his feet in the midfield.
moore jack and bird would be a decent midfield in a couple of years, all bring something different.

I've said it before but I've got a lot of time for Craig. He has a great character and even a bigger work ethic. It is obvious that he has gained the respect of Roosy and many others around the club. A quiet achiever.

In a reflection on his past in junior footy he was constantly told he was too short too slow etc etc. He has been been constantly "kicked" and put down yet look at his progress. You don't Captain NSW at Under 18's level if you don't have leadership and football ability. The last thing I would want to do is put pressure on the young man but... I personally wish him all the best with his development and hopefuly with a bit of luck look forward to seeing him play form many years in the red an white.

and now, hopefully, we'll get a look at two more young blokes who, with bird, moore and jack, will be at the core of our next premiership challenge (hopefully next year, but any time is fine)
