What is the most important KP position on the ground?

Depends onm the teams style of play I guess.

You could say that CHF is the most important position on the ground, but you could rebut that by saying that sicne CHF is THAT important, having a quality CHB to negate the CHF is just as essential.

The only thing I'm sure of is ruck being the elast important of the options.

The ruck, IMO.

On wet days, or with double teams, you can negate a forward, but a ruckman is always necessary in every game.

CHB are so crucial to a strong structured team. Jarrad Waite's form is no coincedence with Carlton's, it's because of him being solid in defence and providing run that Carlton are going good.

That's also largely because Carlton never had a problem kicking a score - It was that they were sieve-like in defense.

Obviously, correcting a major deficiency is going to improve a side...

Centre Half Forward easy. You can build a side around a quality CHF, less so for the other positions.

imo what makes ruckmen so valuable is their midfield like capabilities, not their KP play.

In terms of actual ruck play they're less valuable than the other KPs imo. If you have a quality midfield you can still win the clearances.

It all depends on the players in the team.

If your team struggles to get the ball in the middle or get there hands on it around the ground, a Full Forward is gunna struggle. In that situation, maybe a Centre-Half-Back or Full Back would be better suited or a Ruckman to help give first use.

I think that CHB is the most important position as if you have a bad defence you can basically never win-look at Carlton. While remember when the Eagles won the GF, their defence was rock solid with a terrible forward line other than Lynch at the time.

CHB for me.

All totally useless without gun midfields

Can have the best FB in the comp and still have 20 goals kicked against the team

Can have the best power forward in the comp but unless you can get the ball down quick and clean then he won't have the opportunity to kick goals.

That being said, we have Josh Kennedy (Forward) and Mitch Brown (Defender) ready to come in to the side over the next 3 or so years and I definitely feel that managing the development Kennedy is more important to the long term success of the team.

Agree to a certain extent but I think it is a combination of that and ability to tap to advantage.

In the days of the 80's 90's yes.......but that position is almost defunct now......it is virtually kept open, with lead up players from deeper in the forawrd structure preferred......it is position that is a revolving door with players coming and going thru there.

Your number one forward plays close to goal these days imo.

To answer the thread = We have stoppers, runners/carriers, ball winners & converters instead of positions these days.........and i'll go a good converter anyday!

i agree. the game is won throught the transition of the ball into the forward 50.

Since when is Mitch Brown a defender?

As far as I know, he's ALWAYS been a forward - That's not to say he couldn't be, given the success his identical twin has had, but he certainly doesn't have the developmental experience playing the position that Nathan has.

I would have thought you'd be aiming for something more like getting a FF and CHF between the three of Brown, Kennedy and Notte.

The backline seems more like the area of Glass and Hunter, both of whom are good, and still have plenty of time, and also Spangher, Schofield and MacKenzie, as they develop.
