That comes as a surprise to me. But I guess its like Allessio. If Mott's so ordinary that he's getting delisted by the Swans, who don't have terribly strong ruck stocks, why would we be interested?

I'd thought being in Sydney like me you'd know Dave.

The boy can play. He may have some fitness concerns and you'd suggest there might be some discipline issue going on, but I'd say he'd been a good pickup for us at 30odd in the draft.

Like I said I was surprised he was delisted. He was good for the Swans early in the season (although Biglands killed him in round three). I recall the Herald raving about what a great pick-up he was for someone who was taken about 90-something in the draft and had been overlooked in previous drafts. So he might be worth a go.

As far as the Sydney press goes, it might be a case of don't believe the hype, but I think he showed a fair bit of talent.

Having watched every game pretty much, he is a ruckman thats it nothing else.

Think one of the main reasons for his delisting was that fact. Sydney want to play a versitile and running style of football, and you cant really do that with a brick ruckman who can only play in the ruck.

He can kick behinds.

I haven't seen Mott play before but if what TheMase said about him not being very versatile is true, then he probably would not suit us and our style either.

Clarkies not real versatile either. He's a dedicated ruck type whereas Biglands can do other stuff.

From what I saw of his play, he will be a more than servicable ruck, which may become a rare breed in the AFL in the coming years. He can also take a mark and is an OK kick (the famous point against Essendon at Stadium Telstra not withstanding). I'd gamble on him, but I understand your reluctance crowsfan.

Here is a link to Ricky Mott's profile from the Sydney Swans site:

http://sydneyswans.com.au/default.asp?pg=players&spg=playerprofile

At 199 cm he would be just about right, it also depends if he is available at pick 36. One of the Vic or WA clubs may nab him first.

I think JR may have to get on the phone or head to Sydney to interview the lad first. We don't want another Angwin/Gilligan head case.

We would have to look at him. My mail is that this is Clarke's last year. We need to draft at least one ruckman. Maybe more - and try and snare one in the rookie draft .

Mott would be worth picking up if his attitude is right, which is doubtful considering his suprise delisting by the Swans (something must of happened recently otherwise they would have traded him). However, with the likes of Freo & Dons needing a ruckman & having many picks before us, I reckon he will be gone before we can have a chance.

Yep, someone who reports to preseason training 12 kilograms overweight (as reported).....you'd have to question their desire, commitment and professionalism.....I'd probably still consider him but as has been said, will most probably be gone by our picks.

Was just gonna say what ant said. I saw that report on Channel 10 too (by the way, I was watching out on Channel 9 to see what they had to say about him, but they didn't even report any AFL news at all  ). If we do get him, it looks like he's got a fair bit work to do during preseason

Sounds like he was following Andrew Jarman's Pre Season Training programme of 1993 - 94.

Apparently Mott has come out and said that he was only 3kg overweight, which is unlike what Sydney said, whereas some others were 5kg overweight so I suspect there is another reason behind it. He'd be a good pick up IMO as he is young and will be a very adequate back-up ruckman considering the form he showed through parts of the season. If we can get him into the right frame of mind he'll be a very good pick up and hopefully some other clubs will over look him because of his apparent discipline troubles.

If he's only 3 kgs overweight then how did they get the figure of 12?? If its only 3, '12' seems to be more than just an exaggeration.

Strange one this Mott delisting. A first year ruckman who played something like 17 games and at a pretty good standard - can't understand it on face value. Big discrepancy in the versions regarding how much overweight he is.

There is no doubt they could have traded him and got something decent for him with all the clubs crying out for ruckmen, yet they delisted him. I smell a very recent problem with his behaviour or something along those lines - not just an overdose of Big Macs.

Yep, definitely could be an attitude problem or something like that. But even still, it doesn't really explain why Sydney didn't trade him to get something in return (even Mott said that himself in a recent interview), and instead chose to delist him. Strange one.

hamburgers uppermost
professionalism first
commitment second
desire  Surely the kids seen enough of himself to understand the spinoffs from this word.

He does have Talent, but even Marsh showed that on Motts home ground in his first game.

Stick with Marsh!

We need a key defender

One thing I particlularly remember about Mott is that missed goal against Essendon. Not the miss itself so much but the way I felt the media here used this as a reflection of the Swans entire season. I think this would have hurt the kid a lot.

Also, I think he may have had a particular affinity with Rocket that he (I guess pretty clearly now) does not have with Roos.

Assuming home sickness is not the issue, I think the kid may require a disciplined and supportive environment to reach his potential. I will be interested to see what happens to him, whether it's with us or elsewhere.
