Good idea to shift the game v the Demons from Optus to the MCG. At least now we'll get a chance to play at the ground where we'll probably play a final ... even if we had to come up with the idea ourselves.

Apparently the AFL has given its blessing to the move, but now we have to make sure Carlton is happy with the deal.

Say what? I thought the AFL was supposedly running the game. I know its Carlton's ground yada yada yada, but if the AFL is cool with the move, why do we have to ask John Elliott's opinion? Isn't the AFL bigger than Carlton, or is this the proof we need that the opposite is actually true?

rom what I heard Melbourne and the crows would have to compensate Carlton for whatever they lost with the move.

So if it goes through it depends on what big Jack asks for it.

So Melbourne, as the home club, is happy with the move.

Adelaide, the other team involved in the game, is happy with the move.

The AFL, the people running the competition, are happy with it.

Yet we still have to ask Carlton nicely if we can move the game?? And if Carlton doesn't get what they want and say no, the game stays where it is?

I know the AFL is a joke with TV coverage, grand final tickets and the tribunal ... but this is getting ridiculous.

Why hand Melbourne any extra advantage? Play it at Optus; 12-15,000 there will have more atmosphere than 20,000 at the G. I went to the Melbourne v Power match there and my eyes are still blinded from the sun shining on the Great Southern Stand seats.

I guess the only advantage to us is the chance to get some match practice at the MCG.

We lost our one-game-at-the-G-each-season privileges this year.

It suits Adelaide to play this game at the MCG. If this game stays at Optus, Adelaide will not have played one game at the MCG this year before finals come up. Adelaide will probably have at least two players in finals, assuming Crows make it, who will have never played on the MCG before.

The sticking point is that if a game is scheduled at Footy Park (example), then Footy Park gets a cut of the gate ... so this game scheduled at Optus, although Melbourne, Adelaide, MCG owners & AFL would all be pleased to have it at the MCG ... it would represent a loss of income to Optus Oval if a scheduled game was moved away.

Melbourne get more home game receipt if it is played at MCG. Adelaide are better off also if it is played at MCG. MCG are better off, because otherwise the MCG would be idle at that time.

While it is fair that Optus Oval should get whatever it is contracted to get (in terms of games played there), it is most decidely not fair that Melbourne or Adelaide should bear any burden in providing that contracted outcome.

So the AFL signs a contract in regard to Optus Oval in isolation of the clubs.

Then the AFL says 'we're happy for you to move the game, but you'll need to compensate the parties that we signed a contract with'.

That's a better handpass than Andrew Jarman in his heyday.

Exactly the point.

Yet another memorable title in the classic series "Screw Adelaide with the fixture" by the AFL commission. It is right up there with the "Wizard Cup Semi at Colonial", their seminal work to date.

Take it, we'll play there!

Ours young guns need the run there if nothing else:D

Jack can get an equivalent amount the club [surely] has planned for.

Carlton might have folded by then anyway if they dont pick up

:p Or have moved to Southport.

Just another thought on this issue. We tried to move the R22 game last year against Freo from Subiaco to Footy Park. The AFL were not happy because they didn't want teams buying home games.

Yet the AFL is happy for Melbourne to move a game to the MCG if it pays Carlton ......

This is one of their better efforts from the very large compendium of works entitled "One rule for Adelaide, another rule for former VFL sides".

I refer you to other notable pieces in this compendium such as "One final at MCG" or "Grand Final at MCG" or "Father/Son rule" or "17 games in Victoria" for comparison purposes.

Has the game really been changed to the MCG?? I wanted to go to that game but changed my mind when I saw it was going to be at Optus Oval. If it's going to be at the MCG I may have to change my mind!

Let's hope common sense prevails & the game is played at the G.

Not sure if any other clubs have to play home games at Optus to bail Carlton out, but we've already played 1 too many "HOME" games there already!

I believe the Saints the BUlldogs and the Kangas all have to play one home game there.

Looks like the game won't be moved as Adelaide have refused to contribute to the compensation to Carlton for the game being moved

Melbourne think they will get 10,000 more people to the game but the cost of paying out Carlton will be a lot more than the extra revenue generated by the bigger crowd.

Melbourne could move the game to footy park!!:D
