Hi, I'm moving to Perth in a couple of Months time. Some may think I'm crazy but I cant wait for a change and the beautiful weather , beaches sand laid back lifestyle. I haven't actually ever been to Perth before and wondering if any locals or regular visitors can tell me where the best beaches, shopping areas, pubs etc. are. Any info would be great! Thanks!!!

You need to be qualified before people can give you advice on what sort of area would suit you. Can you answer these questions:

1) Age
2) What do you do for work
3) Where are you most likely to work (city/suburbs/industrial area)?
4) What sort of money do you want to pay for rent?
5) What sort of nightlife do you enjoy? (pubs/clubs/bars)
6) Where are you on the yuppie scale? (10=full yup, 0=dead set bogan)
7) How far away from the city do you want to live?

Can you give any comparisons on what sort of area you want to live in? ie equivalent suburbs in your current city.

If you don't answer at least some of these questions people are just going to tell you what they think is good, which isn't necessarily what you may think is good.

1) Age - 22
2) What do you do for work – Advertising not sure what Ill do over there though, no job organised just rocking up and hoping I'll get something!

3) Where are you most likely to work (city/suburbs/industrial area)? City I think?

4) What sort of money do you want to pay for rent? Around $300 for 3bdrm house

5) What sort of nightlife do you enjoy? (pubs/clubs/bars) More pubby but like some bars and not too full on clubs.

6) Where are you on the yuppie scale? (10=full yup, 0=dead set bogan) Tough one, Maybe a 7, I can swing both ways though, very easy going.

7) How far away from the city do you want to live? Would like to live relatively close to city, preferably on beach, only going for a year just for a change and for a new experience so want to try and get as much out of it as possible, don’t care if I don’t save money etc. just want to have fun!

Cottesloe.

- on the beach
- 10-15 mins from city
- 5-10 mins from Freo
- great beaches
- great pubs and night life
- close to Claremont, Subi, Leederville, and Freo for a range of upmarket pubs, bars and clubs
- high on the yuppie scale
- expensive, but $300pw rent for 3br is about right
-train station and good pub transport

Swanbourne

- next suburb to Cottesloe, but a bit cheaper
- Nude beach

Nth Freo

- close to Leighton beach
- close to Freo night life

City Beach

- on the beach
- 5-10mins from city
- great beaches
- pubs and night life = scarborugh or city
- expensive, but $300pw rent for 3br is about right
- not bad, but Cottesloe/Swanbourne is better
- although close to city than Cottesloe, it ia a bit out of the way

Scarborough

- on the beach
- 10-15 mins from city
- great beaches
- pubs and night life = scarborugh or city
- cheapish, but a bit of a yobbo element id evident

Come live in Riverton! :D No seriously thou, are you planning on buying a house, moving in with someone, getting a flat/apartment? Who are you moving to Perth with yourself or with a partner? Do you know anyone here? Shopping areas include the Perth CBD, and Westfield Shopping centres at Cannington, Morley, and Booragoon. Can't really remember others as i am a guy ;). Club wise, i like the Paramount, the Globe and Metros. A lot of questions to answer, but would be happy to tell you what i can :).

Thanks heaps guys!
I’ll be renting, coming over with my 2 best friends and we don’t really know anyone just a few friends of friends that have moved there from Vic.
Basically we know nothing about WA except it has beautiful beaches and rent seems to be a lot cheaper than Melbourne! First time ever I’ve been hoping North play all their games against WA teams away!!!

Look forward to seeing you in Perth then. I know it's a fair time away, but if North do get a game at Subi, it would be good if all us WA bigfooty people had some get together. I only know Dus (North) and ozzult (Eagles) in person. Others like Tashi and Spidey i talk to on msn.

Don't know anyone personally from BF but I'll be having Roo withdrawel symptoms once I hit the west coast so a get together is a great idea.

How about Subiaco:

* 5-10 minutes away from City Beach
* 5-10 minutes away from West Perth & The City
* Good for public transport (trains, buses)
* Near shops, pubs, cafes
* Close to Subiaco Oval :p

A nice apartment/house in Subi Centro would be great and would be within your budget
