"St Kilda offered Hamill a four-year, A$2.2 million contract"

$2.2million/four years = $550k per year. Not that far off $600k per year Jeff.

LOL - do you believe everything you read? I guess not as you and just about every other Carlton supporter still don't believe the ". . . .but significantly less than a lucrative Sydney offer". Some mercenary when he knocks back a "lucrative" offer hey?

BTW, that reference was to his FIRST contract and it's a guess.

Why is it you people can't come to grips with the fact that the reason he left is being welcomed back to your club. How dumb is that?
Gluttons for punishment.

the reason he left is $$$$$$'s ...pure and simple.
no matter what spin he put on it .

In hindsight is was a blessing in disguise ..funny how these things work out in the end

In my eye's no player deserves to have injuries ruin his career, let alone quality of life after football. I was a Hamill fan whilst he played for us, gutted when he left and vented my spleen a little, but I still enjoyed watching him play. All the best Aaron.

Moron post. Don't you see that Hamill leaving actually saved us money?? He would have been on a huge contract and only playing 50% of the time... very poor value. IMO the saints have lucked out on the deal and Carlton are the winners.

Great player though and sad to see him injured. You always wanna see the best players out there... even the ones some people love to hate.

I'm not sure how many of you know the actual story but;

Hamill was devastated to leave Carlton. He gave his agent Power of Attorney while he travelled overseas on an end of year trip. The deal stalled with the Blues and his agent signed with the Saints without the approval of Hamill at the time. When he came back he was shattered.

Did you see the look on his face when he left after Moorabbin Blight was sacked? :D

He didn't look too happy because he wanted to play under Blight and there was even some talk that he may have wanted out.

So why didn't he sack his manager and why didn't his manager take the best offer?

Is he still there?

Sammy was a gun at his peak...

Watching him run around Princes Park was fantastic in the late 90's.

As tough as they come.

I was devestated when he left. But he made the call, not because of our club, but our former prez. It was a big decision for him then. But it was Jack not Sammy who did that.

I wish him all the best in whatever he does. I hope he comes back to Carlton one day as a past player. A great representative of the Blues and the Saints. As much as I despise St Kilda!

Whether his contract is for a $100K or $1M per year is irrelevant, the fact is St.Kilda have Hamill on their books until the end of 2008 season, and if he decides to retire after this current knee op, then you can better your life that he will take every last cent that is owing to him.

todays herald-sun says Hamill may never play another game of football again
good luck to what he does in the future hope he stricks around the footy scene in a non playing role :)

Enlighten us, JD.

What is your estimated figure for Hamill's pay per year?
I'd be surprised if it's over $400K

No different to Kouta hey?

When we renogotiated Hamill's contract he was due to receive a large annual payment for his backloaded contract. His contract was backloaded in large part because of existing contracts when he came (Spida, Hall, Harv's, etc)

In this season, the club renogotiated and spread that last payment over 5 years. So regardless, part of the money he is now earning is payment for monies previously owed. Therefore your post is nonsensical.

Exactly right. Carlton were mad to sign Kouta for 5 years, and were caught out when he did his knee. This contact, however, was signed about 4 years prior to the one that Aaron signed, and by that stage, 5 year deals were a thing of the past.

But, this thread is about Hamill, not Kouta. If you want to talk about Kouta, start a thread and i'll discuss it with you. Sound familiar?

for what its worth - im glad to hear his career at st kilda is most likely over too.

players come and go from clubs, but there has only ever been two which has left with out my blessings hammil and campo ( and ottens too, but thats another team and another story). Hammil talked the talk as a lifelong blue, but didnt want to walk the walk. he left us in a situation where we had to settle for "magic beans" for losing his services, and that stinks like bigfoots d1<k.

for those people who say get over it - YOU get over it if you want to, but i and alot of other supports dont want to. he got his money, so why does he need my sympathy?

St kilda have by far been the biggest mouthed, most bumhole supporters to carlton people since they finally finally FINALLY got to see what we look like from sitting up above - AND IM AS HAPPY AS A PIG IN CRAP THAT BOTH HAMMILL & LUKE PENNY (who did a similar thing to the doggies as hammilll did to us) got KARMED in the end! It will almost be nice to see st kilda win a flag with both of those trick pulling slappers sitting on the side line and having NOT A THING to do with it - Almost... but then seeing all those happy st kilda supporters cheering and happy would be enough to make me change my mind.

suck poo poo st kilda - you silly little club.:thumbsu:

But then he didn't know that when he left Carlton, did he?

Hamill can rot in hell!

He sacrificed our club and his mates for $$$$$.

No body leaves Carlton for the saints and retains respect!

All you morons who put a positive spin on everything make me sick!

Fancy wishing him all the best, Hamill is a money hungry, greedy PIG!

I'm glad he will never ever get a premiership medal.

Longer contract, less money per year, less pressure on the cap.

Pretty simple really.
doesn't matter if he doesn't play that saints still have to pay out his money there is no return
