ST KILDA'S Justin Koschitzke is free to play in the Saints’ round 13 blockbuster against Geelong on June 25, after he was cleared of striking Fremantle’s Ryan Crowley by the match review panel.

Koschitzke was reported during the second quarter of St Kilda’s 18-point win over the Dockers at Subiaco Oval on Sunday.

But the MRP found that he made only minimal contact with Crowley, so the report was thrown out.

Fellow Saint Leigh Montagna has not been as lucky, being charged with tripping Garrick Ibbotson and facing a one-match ban unless he accepts an early guilty plea.

The tripping charge attracts 80 demerit points but because he has carry-over points that lifts the penalty to 125 points and a one-match ban. An early guilty plea reduces the penalty to 93.75 demerit points and a reprimand.

Surely Joey will plead guilty.

MRP clears Kosi, Montagna faces ban

So... is really Montagna in trouble? Or will he accept the early guilty plea?

Is it normal to get reported for tripping? I didn't see Montagna getting reported in any news (only Kozi), so... does this mean the tribunal watched it over on the video by themselves?

I think they are yet again out to get us...

Fletch got a week for it against the Dogs, for what was a pretty minor trip. Didn't see the Monty incident though, so can't judge.

Monty does seem to have a reflex action to stick his leg out when he gets wrong-footed. Seen quite a few from him, and another one yesterday. Having said that, I didn't think there was any major contact (then again, I don't think it takes much to get pinged - although there has been a few trips not cited this year).

Fletch grabbed his ankle, as in "I'm going to trip you by grabbing your foot and pulling backwards." that is as intentional as walking up to someone on the footpath, going "Hi, I'm Thomas, I'd brace myself if I were you" and then walking in front of them and kicking the crap out of the shin.

Now I've not seen joeys report, but somehow I doubt it was as blatant as Fletchers was to draw comparisons. Although in saying that, it doe sindeed appear that I was correct earlier on in the year; AFL players are free to wrestle at their leisure as once again no one has been fined or suspended over grabbing another bloke, shaking him for about 5mins and meeting the turf in a game of "get off, no you get off, no you get off!". As I do recall listening to both Joey and Crowley heading to the bench before suddenly both fall to the ground just in front of the bench but "it's ok, cause the emergency umpire was there!"

Off the ball? Check.
One bloke grabbing another? Check
Grappling? Check
Takedown? Check

Sweet jesus is a wrestle! Right in front of the interchange bench and still no fine for wrestling. :thumbsu:

I reckon they fight it. If they lose and he has a holiday, then he's only got 25 points over his head instead of 90-some. That way if he does something mildly stupid in r22 or a final, it may not cost him a week off.

If he isn't going to get up for next week with Ibbotson's knee still in the back of his head, cop the ban. If he is OK, take the plea. Then again, i don't like the points over his head - if he cops the ban he has way less carry over points. Maybe contest, and if u lose so be it - we don't need to beat the Cats next week to prove anything.

I think it depends on past incidents, It's gotten players in the past I'm sure.
