Murphy for pick 23.

What are your thoughts on this turn of events?

Has anyone EVER made a success by going back to his old club?

Anyhoo, I'm not too unhappy. Geelong admitted they made a mistake - he obviously didn't want to play for us. Good luck at Carlton.

cheers

Peter Bell was a great succuess coming back to Freo. John Barnes ws also origionally with Essendon wasnt he?

Great deal for us. Those long bombs from outside 50 on the run....mmmmm. Welcome back Justin. He's a Blue Boy and nobody was happy to see him go last year. I'm excited.:D

Sung to the tune of the Welcome Back Kotter theme. It's pretty crappy, some bits don't sound right and other parts should be changed, but I thought it fit in well with Murphy's return.

Welcome Back Murphy

"Welcome back, Your salary was your ticket out. Welcome back, To that same old place Elliot raves about.

Well, some of the names have changed since you hung around, But those premiership dreams have remained though we've lost ground

Who'dve thought they'd trade ya? (Who'dve thought they'd trade ya?) When back here we really need ya? (Back here we really need ya?)

Yeah, we screwed the Cats badly, Cuz they took a draft pick gladly. Welcome back.

Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back. Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back."

That last bit needs work but I don't have the time. Maybe you guys have some ideas.

Cheers

Yay! I am glad that Smurf is back.
I couldn't believe that Carlton traded him last year. But then again Carlton did some pretty stupid things at the end of last season!:(

Welcome back "smurf". :)

I'm very happy as well.
I think he will play much better next year at Carlton than this year at Geelong, as he never really wanted to be there in the first place.

:)

Not too bad Ant

Works well Ant, especially the bridge "who'd've thought they'd trade ya" bit. I was singing the song when reading it. :)

Welcome back "Smurf"...

Well I'm very happy that Justin has come back to the club. We all missed his attacking run into the 50 for those good running goals, and that's what the Blues need for next year. There seemed to be something missing in this year's midfield...

Along with McKernan, Smith and Eccles... we had a fairly decent run in the trades, haven't we? Got a good running midfielder, good forward who can kick a bag of goals from time to time, an okay young player (haven't seen much of Eccles) and most importantly, a tall, young player who can help is in the ruck, up forward or down back. Would be very handy if SOS retires...

Yeah well JUB JUB

He's off at a better place now isn't he !
Leaving Geelong for Carlton is like leaving Afghanastan for France.

Welcome back Mighty Murph (that's my nickname for him)

You get the feeling he's a bit of a troublemaker, he's been at three clubs and now he's going back to the second one. Carlton will need to give him the red-carpet treatment and make up an excuse as to why they traded him in the first place to keep him happy.

He's a good footballer, but you have to be prepared to take on a whinger.

Not bad, the tune seems to fit pretty well

Call him Lizard ok.

did you make that up?

Well no, but a guy in the group i go with to the footy did when Lizard first joined us. Also, Andrew McKay's nick is Slash, I don't like Macca. Slasher McKay was a famous Aust cricketer in the 40's or therabouts.

Murphy was traded last year to make salary cap room for HAMILL. Hamill knocked back the Blues offer and took the $450K a season the SAINTS were offering. Unfortunately it was too late for Murphy and he had already been traded. It wasn't that he had no future at Carlton but that the Blues needed room in the cap and someone had to be sacrificed. He wasn't too old or slow or not in the Blues best 22 but they needed to reduce the salary cap by about $150k to fit in HAMILL's demands. Although not at the same level Fletcher Houlihan Doering Culpitt were t the time seen as also being able to play wing, midfield, half back rotation.

The Blues players are very happy to have him back. 3rd in the CATS B&F shows that he has not slipped or lost interest because of what happened. He will add some long kicking and pace to the midfield and with McKernan Whitnall Fevola Hotton Prendergast Lappin up forward some good delivery to the forward line.

Amazonstud, you are a bit off the mark as to why "Lizard" was traded. Brits found out that Lizard was playing with a few illegal substances at a party and had strong feelings that this is not what he wanted at the club so he was traded. After the end of the home and away Lizard spoke to Brits about being able to come back to the club and a deal followed with certain conditions. Probably the sealing factor was the Milburn/SOS incident.
