Music Programs

Am looking for a music program to download that will let me mix music. ie Record seperate instruments and mix.

I don't really have facilities for anything fancy, but need to record some stuff on the weekend, so was just wondering if there was a simple to use mixing program out there i could download.

Anyways, a couple of years ago, I was using a windows program called n-Track studio. It was shareware and worked pretty well actually!! See if you can find that. I was able to get 10-12 tracks on my ancient Pentium 233 machine too...

Pro Tools.

Most likely you won't be able to afford that. Cool Edit Pro is ok and easy to use.

Don't have the equipment to really want to spend money on more expensive programs at the moment, just wanted something to play around with for learning purposes.

There are free versions of both cubase and logic, which along with pro-tools are industry standard. They should have OSX versions. If you buy a copy of "computer Music" magazine, it comes with a CD which usually has some useful free programs. There are other similar mags.

I forgot to mention that Pro Tools won't work on an NT based windows OS. Only win 98/95.

Soundtrack really isn't a multi-track recording program though - more of a looping / sampling program

Acid Pro is a great program to mix audio tracks. Its made by Sonic Foundry and is considered somewhat an industry standard in some circles. Well worth sampling it to see if you like...
