what is the differance between Techno and dance music? that is something I haven't been able to work out.

There is no difference. Its just a label. Techno can be non-dancelike music, while some may dance to tracks like "What a Wonderful World".

Some people need labels so they feel comfortable, while others use labels to market something... i.e. Alternative.
