My First VBasic experience

OK, well that's one piece of the puzzle ... perhaps I can zip that up with the game and make them both available ... where on the computer did the dll file need to be put? Same folder as the game itself?

Ahh ok, through google I've discovered that the above file IS a Visual Basic runtime ... so I guess both of yers are telling me the same thing, yeah?

Errr.. look in this very thread.

The runtime libraries contain routines that VB programs require to wrok.

Rather than include those routines in every single VB program, it looks for them on disk at runtime.

Saves needless duplication, but of course you need to have the DLLs to make the programs work.

My bad ... you did mention them earlier and tell me where to put them ... I was too busy trying to get the Setup Wizard to work at that stage and overlooked it, sorry.

And the "bug".. if your code looks something like this

Do
..calculate scores..
..if the quarter's over exit
Loop

put a DoEvents in

Do
..calculate scores..
..if the quarter's over exit
DoEvents
Loop

This will enable the user to click buttons and move the window and such. (fingers crossed)

Ok that DoEvents command seems to be working! Thanks Paul.

I also have just about got fixtures down pat.

Couple of little issues to go but they'll come with time. EG: When you create a fixture, it decides it will from then on naturally count every match towards the ladder ... bu I haven't told it yet to ignore a score that ISN'T based on the fixture (eg scratch matches, finals).

Also it'll probably try to make a fixture even if there's only one team (lot of byes)

And it has a limit to fixture scripts of team numbers 1 through 16, but there's warning in the case of you having +16. It'll probably just not create one, but think that it has!

Also the same page where I put the game (see first post on this thread for link) also has a link to a place where you can get it now.

Fixtures and ladders all functioning nicely now except it doesn't tell you off when you keep trying to load a fixtured match when all matches have expired.

That's just because I haven't got around to it yet. It refuses to do it, but doesn't tell you off for trying.
