My Hypothesis

Fremantle have never played an AFL game without an Indigenous player.


I haven't actually looked into it, but we've always had at least five or six indigenous players on our list, and several (Chisolm, Abraham, Kickett, Headland, Grover, Farmer, Hayden) who have played relatively long careers spanning our existence in the AFL.

Thoughts? Can anyone identify a game when we didn't have indigenous representation?

Has never happened from my knowledge. There has always been a player with indigenous heritage in the best 22.

That's the players that have been on the list from when they debuted to when they left.

Also, In 2003, Round 4 versus the Roos we made history by playing with a record number of indigenous players in the first 22. I think it was seven.

Seems he is after doing some looking around. However, my references are bigfooty so it may just as well be wrong. Edit: He is not.

My mistake, he is of New Zealand heritage. Haven't put down Sibo or Houghton because they are yet to debut. And you said games right?

Yes - played games was my initial criterion. Was getting a bit sidetracked reading your list as a list of Freo listed indigenous players.

I'll trawl through the games list on footywire.com one day to confirm (or reject) my hypothesis one day. If it's true, I'd hate to see it broken!

Sidetracked myself as well but I got there in the end. Well I hope it was of some help to you anyway.

I'm pretty sure Andrew McGovern was part indigenous also.

Not sure if Brad Rowe was indigenous?

Are you suggesting our lack of success is the result of having a continued indigenous presence?
