Once again we traded in a "strange" manner. My theory is that we kept quiet this year keeping our offers only for lower level players so as to allow us to move heaven and earth for Chris Judd next year. We must now have significant room in our salary cap and have maintained players that might actually have some value in a trade. There wasn't a great deal up for offer in this trading period but next year one of the top young players in the nation is up so we are just preparing ourselves for him.

Other than the fact any club would love to have Judd there is absolutely no basis for this theory at all. Nothing would indicate any club has any chance of moving Judd let alone that Collingwood have even considered the possibly. In fact I'd say that the offers to Smith and a couple of others would indicate we aren't concerning ourselves with Judd. No doubt like every other club in the AFL if was available we'd want to throw our hat into the ring but I hope we are not banking on him coming home much less to Collingwood in our trading and recruiting strategies. The reality is we have a very young list and therefore few proven players to trade with outside of the players we intend to build our future on.

that theory is fairly "out there" gloveman, i cant see the pies landing judd anyway next season unless we have an utterly woeful season and snag pick 1....which i hope we dont

His agent has already said he will consider moving at the end of next season. The Brownlow now allows him to put a couple of extra dollars on his name. Your right every club would want him and that is why forward planning would be required to snag him. If you want to plan for the future we need a replacement for Bucks and Judd would be ideal. We landed Buckley why not Judd

In all probability Judd will stay at West Coast. If he was to consider Collingwood it would reguire giving up someone like Taz so we could just swap their salaries plus a bit extra for Juddy and Bec. Consider that a 'relocation' expense.

I don't think your theory is valid at all, as we offered $1.2 mill to Ball, went hard after Goddard and offered Smith $300,000 a year for 3 years.
We didnt stay low in the trading period, its just that
(a) no one wanted to come to us or
(b) clubs wouldn't trade with us.
On both points it a real worry.

Ball was going nowhere other than the Saints or the hawks where he has family history. Goddard grew up a blue (remember the draft day and his mother) and playing in b&W would not be a great option for him. Smith is a defender and not in the same class. Judd has sadi that he will not resign until he has considered all the options and a good offer would have to make him think. White came back from freo, pebs from the swans, davis went home to sydney, it happens every year so we need to consider it an opportunity.

As I said previously I don't think that there was that much on offer in the trading period. I think however that you are correct by saying that we have a problem in the drafting of players. We need to look at this after missing Brown, Johnson, Stevens and now Smith over the past 4 years.

All good information, but your point was that we kept quiet, my point was that we didn't.
