i know we at fremantle cant take any competition lightly, that being said, what do we as a group see as a successful campaign in this years pre-season comp?

personally i would like to see the following:

1. the blooding of our rookies, i think it is a given that barlow and SOS will get a game being mature age rookies, i would also like to see sibosad and shepherd get their chance, they will have both completed two preseasons and hopefully can crack a game. the rest of the rookies already have AFL experience, so it would be expected that they will play a part unless injured.

2. a good solid game plan, last NAB cup the unveiling of the rolling zone was in effect, come round 5 in the actual season it was a disaster, i hope to see a fast, hard game plan, involving clean ball movement and accountability. we ended 09 with this plan, hopefully an evolved version of this will be in effect.

3. young guns fit and in form, im takling about palmer and mayne, these two are our future guns, they were ravaged by injury last year, hopefully we will see them fit, healthy and hungry. hopefully a player like roberton who has from all reports been awesome so far can crack a gig as well. obviously hilly, suban et al can show their stuff early on as well which is always exciting

4. a win away from subi, our first match is against melbourne at subi, i see absolutely no reason as to why we should not win this match. melbourne are young and have not experienced success. nothing is a given for us, however if we win this, we will play away in week 2, if we can begin a winning away culture it will give us confidence into the season proper. it is just so so important that we start to win away. if we can get some good away form, we may even push for top 8 in home and away season

all that being said i hope we can look towards the NAB cup semi's, from there who knows. if we can stay away from the regional grounds then that can only help us

I think you have it pretty well on the money KPR.

Rookies getting a run
Mora having a run
Game plan looking better and more chemistry in the midfield
Some extra kilos on the kids
A fit list with Crowley, Palmer, Johnno, Des and Roger all looking fit and healthy.
Beating Melbourne
No injuries

I'd love us to win a second round match and further but I'm not really worried. I prefer the pre-season comp, to be about checking out youngsters to see how they look and tuning the team before the season proper.

I honestly don't care if we win or lose, I just want the kids to be blooded and have them be competitive and confident at afl level.

Win or lose, game 3 should see the key senior players rested. These are Pav, Hase, McPharlin, Tarrant & Sandi.

Any of the kids fit and match ready should get a run. I can't wait for the intraclub game, the rookies will be pushing for a place in the 24. I remember watching Hill at last years intraclub game, seeing him carve it up while his family cheered on in the crowd. Exciting stuff...

lol yeah i was there at that, i forgot. he kicked a goal and his crew were on the hill cheering like mad :thumbsu: was sensational. i remember thinking to myself, i may have found a player to love more than rhys, and i have a serious man crush on rhys :D

Yeah me too, was sitting right near "The Hillbillies". They made the atmosphere. Pre-match I was watching Hilly and Sibo playing kick to kick and thinking man we have a couple of smooth movers right here. Sibo easily drilled a few goals during warm-up but when he got a set shot during the real stuff he absolutely sprayed it and I thought, this kids got nerves.

the intraclubs are great to go to. you can really see the guys strutt their stuff, some of them get pretty into it, i remember watching mayney and grover wrestling on as if they were playing the eagles :D:thumbsu:

Yeah I dig it. I mean it's footy again. My wife thinks I'm nuts when I set off with my budget printed out with all the new players numbers and shit but I love it. I'd go watch training if I didn't have to work, I love this shit :)

I agree E-shed. The cricket just does not do it for me. I troll through the footy sites for info on the boys and how they are going. Too much information is not enough.

The old spirited debate on here is one of my best forms of expressing opinion in the meantime until the season comes around again. At this time of year living in Melbourne, you are grateful for any information on the boys that you can get.

My expectations are;
  • Some of our rookies to make our main list players looks like they should be on the rookie list. Eg Silvagni, Barlow, De Boer.
  • The loss of speed in players like Soloman, Grover, Haze. Nothing against these guys, but they have played hard football and have come to the latter stages of their careers.
  • Skills and speed coming from the like of Morabito, Hill and Suban.
  • The emergence of Clarke in the ruck as Sandi's heir apparent.
  • Sibosado to get a run and I will be VERY excited! He will show some nice skills but that he needs more development.
  • A team that will kick a HELL of a lot more goals in 2010.
  • A team of guys that actually look like they can play and enjoy playing together.
  • Leadership skills in Suban that will make him the Heir to the great man Pav in the leadership stakes.
  • Hill to remind us oldies of how good Peter Matera was flying down the wing and kicking goals. Will be a standout champ and prove to be an outstanding alternative to Rich.
Dear God, please make all of these wishes come true for us long suffering Fremantle FC supporters, we are loyal and love our team. It is time for them to begin their rise to domination.

Amen!

I've been saying Hill reminds me of Matera since he joined but everybody else talks about him being like McLeod. With his physique , speed, the little shimmy, penetrating kicking and the way he can control the ball when it is in his zone without completely taking possession, he just looks like he is straight out of the Matera school of Football Wizardry. Really looking forward to seeing him again and seeing the results of his development over the off season.

More of a Matera than a McLeod but were not talking about a couple of hacks here so I'll be more than happy if he has a style and career like either one

i hear ya brother, i am EXACTLY the same :D:thumbsu:

im often heard to quote (to the annoyance of my family who love cricket)
'the problem with cricket is that its not footy"....... preseasons are so damned long :(

I was looking for Hill footage the other night, and all I could find was this. It is funny when you look at it now and you can see the class. No injuries in the NAB cup is all I hope for. I would like to get through a few rounds coz you get to see them on TV.

hard not to love him, so much speed, poise and skill :thumbsu:

Please don't bother playing Roger Dodger in ANY pre-season matches.

Good to see de Boer, Walters, Pearce feature in those highlights and there's also a snippet of Morabito congratulating Hill after he kicks that 50+ metre goal.
