How is this pretender #2 in the world?

Been watching him this week and it seems the only way he gets his points is due to unforced errors of his opponents.

He's down 5-2 at the moment against Simon and has not hit one winner .. if it wasn't for Simon hitting it out / into the net, Nadal would be a goner.

Overrated, not to mention arrogant and takes way too long to serve the ****ing ball! He bounces it about 45 times.

Only gained his #2 status due to his clay court domination obviously.

Wont be there for long, I'm predicting he'll slip out of the top 5 very soon and will be out of the top 10 in 2 years time.

Bit harsh.....
He is no doubt a hack, doesn't like to take too many risks during a rally, but he's a bloody good hack because he's opponents find it extremely hard to hit winners against him....His opponent has him on the ropes at present, but if he starts making his opponent rally with him, then expect Raffa to fight back....

I'm predicting you'll be proved wrong.

Have you forgettin he also made the final of Wimbledon the last two years? And would probably have won both times had it not been for the greatest player of all time?

Don't see how you could call him arrogant either, seems pretty down to earth to me. And if you wanna have a whinge about players bouncing the ball for ages, go watch Djokovic play.

He'll fight back. Are you watching?
He's not number 2 for nothing, and i agree with Scruff, what's so arrogant about Nadal? he's one of the most down to earth guys you're every likely to meet!
His interviews are proof enough. He's all class :thumbsu:

But i do hope he loses today... After all it'll make Fed's job a hell of a lot easier!

No not really, I still don't think he's number 2 in the world. At least 3 better than him, if not more. Seems he always gets an easy run to the finals as well.

IMO the top 10 is something like this

Federer
Djokovic
Roddick
Gonzalez
Davydenko
Nadal
Gasquet
Nalbandian
Ferrer
Robredo/Baghdatis

Nadal could be anywhere between 5th-8th .. possibly even 4th but I honestly can't see how he's 2nd in the world.

Dont know much about tennis do you? Did you check head to head records, roddick vs nadal?? davydenko...oh really? the guy never even made it past semi finals in any big event in the world. He hasnt beaten nadal YET in his career and gonzalez...when he is on, he is the most dangerous player in the world. But he is the inconsistent tennis player i have ever seen since Rios. Djokovic, well yes, but he is not quite there yet.Ridiculous analysis but i am glad you didnt put gasquet or ferrer ahead of Nadal.

Nalbandian is better than him.
Murray, Gasquet, Berdych, Baghdatis when they put it together will be better than him
Djokovic and Ferrer are better.
Safin is better when he feels like it.
Don't really think Roddick is better than him.
Nadal will always be better than Gonzo and Davydenko though.

Fryingpan is probably right about him slipping down a few rankings soon.

really? and why do you think that will happen? the only one who can overtake him in the future is Dojokovic. Who else?????? nalbandian is almost 26 and injury prone.Wont happen

Gonzalez lmao

Davydenko is like Nalbandian, makes heaps of quarters/semis but doesnt have what it takes to go one step further. Djokovic has been in great touch for the last 12 months but is still yet to win a slam. And Roddick is still yet to prove he is not just a one slam wonder.

Nadal is easily the 2nd best player in the world.

well, I can tell you how. 3 french open titles and 2 wimbledon finals will probably do that. I honestly can't see any reasoning behind you putting Davydenko ahead...and GONZALEZ!? Djokovic will get there eventually, but not yet.

how long has he been number 2 for now by the way?? 120 weeks or something??

well said mate :thumbsu:

The thing that pisses me off about Nadal is how many joke draws he gets. It doesn't matter, as long as Fed and Nadal-killer Nalbandian (last 4 sets against Nadal 6-2 6-1 6-4 6-0) are in the GS AO draw he simply will not win because of massive matchup problems.

He is a fighter though.

Btw, Top 10 players imo

Federer
Nadal
Djokovic
Nalbandian
Roddick
Ferrer
Baghdatis
Davydenko
Gasquet
*spot reserved for Murray*

Well said.

Also, Roddick is a one slam wonder, and tennis in 2003 was a ****ing joke.

Gonzalez is way too hot & cold to be a worthy world no.4 imo...

I don't know how you people can watch him for this reason alone (and the fact he never leaves his bloody undies alone).

Tennis is boring enough without watching Nadal take 5 mins before every serve.

I dont think his draw last wimbledon was easy.Youzhny, Berdych and Djokovic. 3 bogey players that owned him over time.I thought he did extremely well but them, although Nole was injured but that is not an excuse.

Probably alot to do with the seeding system that he gets these 'joke draws'

Interesting you mention he is a fighter, I often think of Nadal as what Lleyton Hewitt is described as, a battler. Lleyton gets called a battler when he drops a set or two against an unheard of player that he should dispose of easily, whereas Nadal actually has these long battles against the good players.

And here is the debunking of the "Nadal is only good on Clay" Myth. People say that he is crap, he has never won a Grand Slam not on Clay. For such a young player, it is basically impossible to expect him to have won a grand slam before this time frame. Lets take a quick look at the leaderboard of players winning a non clay grand slam in the past 4 years

Federer-11
Safin-1
That is all. So the same criticism must be given to EVERY player besides Nadal. In this time Nadal has been runner up twice at Wimbledon. Likewise, Lleyton Hewitt has been runner up at a grand slam twice, and Roddick three times. So no other players have substantially improved on his record. Basically, as the media suggests, it is Federer>>>>>>>>>>>>The rest, and Nadal at the front of that pack.
