Nat Fyfe (WA)

187cm 75kg

Draft Camp Highlight: Shuttle/Beep Test 14.7

Half-forward flanker

Although skinny, Fyfe has a sticky pair of hands. Times his run well into marking contests and gets the most out of his leap. (Played against him in juniors)

Interesting to note his development. Alegedly played 2nds football in Year 11 before having a growth spurt and dominating in Year 12. Has a great goal sense and runs all day. He won't be a player that will stop and start and kill his opponent of the lead, will just run them into the ground.

Interesting to note WA U18 coach spoke of Fyfe:
"He's got one of the best pairs of hands I've seen from a kid in ages''

And went on to acknowledge him as the 'rough diamond' with plenty of potential and improvement left

Finished with 10 marks, 20 disposals and 6.2

WAFL Colts stats:

17 games
342 disposals (Ave 20.1)
142 marks (Ave 8.4)
36 goals (Ave 2.1)
30 behinds (Ave 1.8)
76 In50 (Ave 4.5)

Ranked in WAFL Colts:
2nd in total marks
1st in average marks per game

Highs:
Disposals 34 v EF
Goals 8 v EF
Marks 15 v EF

I dont want to be critical here but being skinny i would have to assume would have been 65kg max in year 11 (16yo) and he played 2nds football that was pretty dumb as he could have got a serious injury and prevented him form being a AFL player. I assume he played juniors on top of that as well?

However on a brighter note, YES I WANT HIM AT WCE. He is exciting, crafty around goals and would be a good pick up for our pick 22 / 23.:thumbsu:

I think from what I have heard his body stature and ability wasn't quite up to 1sts football. But I never went to Aquinas so I can't comment on it with full confidence. He has developed out of sight since then so it enlarges his scope for improvement for the future, which is why I would love him at the Eagles. We need some contested marking forwards, we have Kennedy, but Lynch, LeCras, Mckinley and Hansen will never take a mark from a contest.

Fyfe is our man :thumbsu:

LeCras is a fantastic contested mark for his size. And saying that, he'd only be a couple of centimetres shorter than Fyfe.

Probably my favourite player from the draft, he could turn out to be a real star, but I expect he'll take a while to really make his presence felt at AFL level.

There is a lot to like about Fyfe. The fact that he is never out of a marking contest is a plus: all he needs is a run at the ball. But for the next couple of years he isn't going to beat many AFL defenders in a test of strength, and most will try to make their contests that way as they know they will have the advantage.
Give him some time and he will be a dangerous commodity.
