Just wondering what everyone thinks of Bockie. I am of the opinion that he is on the verge of becoming an extremely dominant forward. I hope he can get a lot of confidence (and even arrigance) from his performance on the weekend, becasue he is big enough and strong enough to dominate any defender in the competition.

I don't think people realise how big he actually is, he is a man mountain plus he is very mobile for his size. He hurt Darcy without even trying and some of the marks he took when one out were similar to Wayne Carey (not that he is in Carey's league yet).

He is the forward that the Crows have beeen looking for over the past few years, and if he can stay injury free I think we may have just found that dominant forward that we have been crying out for since 99 (when Mods left).

And finally Port do not have a defender that can go with him and he will hopefully be the difference this weekend.

He's not a man mountain. I've stood with him before and he ain't that big.

Carey is far bigger.

Looks like he spent a lot of time on the weights during his layoff. He was always a good size, but now he's a tank.

I love the way he moves for a man of his size. Numerous times he is sighted up on the wings providing an option. Also very good at ground level and a very acute football brain (As evidenced by his little toepoke to Welshy on the weekend)

Cornes? Chaplain? Surely they'd both be well suited. Hopefully we can stretch them by having four marking options up there again. Would Wakelin and Thurstans both be included in the Port lineup?

I still remember seeing Bock play in a pre-season game when he first come to the AFC (around 2002) pretty sure it was the Wizard Cup Semi Final against Richmond, anyway I thought he was very raw and wasnt much chop at all, and I was skeptical when he made his debut with the AFC, but I guess now, first impressions can be very deciving because he is a great player at both ends of the ground, he strong yet mobile, Im a big Bock fan, he has a great future ahead of him:thumbsu:

Not wishing to make any ridiculous comparisons, but does anyone else think he moves a lot like Wayne Carey? The way he runs, the way he turns towards goal, runs at packs, that sort of stuff. I really look forward to watching Bock develop. There is so much upside with Bocky that I reckon we have reason to be reservedly excited about what weve got here. ;)

I think you'll notice Ruttens is very similar as well, people forget that W.Carey gave alot more in his two years that a few games.

I still think Bock missing that home final against St Kilda a few years back was the difference between us and the flag.

He just gives so much muscle to our team, i love him being there.

Wow guys hold on a second! Wayne Carey?! THE best CHF of the modern era?!

Bock is good. He has improved a heck of a lot in the last couple of years. He was capable of dropping the undroppable, now he is taking some real strong marks but crickey he has a long way to go before he is even in consideration for AA let alone comparison to game's greats.

If he turns into a Scott Lucas type we should be bloody proud and happy with that. He is a VERY good player but he ain't the saviour alone.

Yeah you are right Stiffy, Bock is much better than Carey.

Get a grip ladies. He has to do this all year, no need to go overboard now but I have noticed quite a few of you do this. "The next Carey" or "The next McLeod". Ridiculous.

I don't think anyone is saying he is the next wayne carey or even in that league

but he has benefited from 2 years with the champion.

If Bock live up to his potential then i'm sure he will be fine

Please read the posts before you make such comments, or indeed it will be you who looks ridiculous. Where did you read that he was the "next Carey" or in fact "better than Carey".

Get a grip eh?

The dogs were missing Grant and Harris. The only guy they had in their backline who was anywhere near Bock's height was Cam Wight, and it was his 14th game.
Add to that the fact that he was getting great, fast and frequent service from our midfield.
He played a good game, but I wouldn't get too excited. Scott Stevens was equally dominant, and we all know how poorly he went last time we tried him forward at AFL level. I'm very interested to see how he goes against Darren Glass or Matthew Scarlett.

Granted, but didn't he have a very good game against a backline consisting of Michael and Fletcher too.

Seriously who is saying he's the next Wayne Carey? All that was compared was their movements across the ground.

FFS, all anyone is saying that he played a fantastic game and is on the right track to be a very handy player if he continues his development. Geezus is there a law against giving someone a bit of a wrap these days. Should we all just be negative pricks and never have anything slightly positive to say about anyone in the team?

Honestly - NO-ONE is making the comparison yet, but I DID think watching the doggies game that he looked a lot like Duck, when he turned and followed up after taking a grab. So I'm with you ...

Bock was on Ryder for much of last week, and was a lot quieter when Michael was swapped onto him. Fletcher spent almost all day on Welsh. Once again it's hard to draw a lot from that game either. I have him in our best 5 players over the last two games though, so it's not as if I don't recognise his contribution and I agree that his form both this year and in last years finals series has been promising, and do expect him to improve (possibly to the extent of putting his hand up as one of the top 4 or 5 CHFs of the competition) but I would like to see how he goes against a really top class defender first.

Is there a law against sensible analysis of a player, taking into account the opposition player he stood?
Calm down!

But Bock didn't hit the post... :D

My initial thoughts on Bock still seem the same he can take a decent grab, but questions remain about his kicking power. His accuracy is okay, but the main issue is the distance of his kicks.

To get a good return I think he needs to play close to goal. No point having him lurk around the 50 metre line IMO if you want him to make an impact on the scoreboard.

Still remember that night knew we were in trouble as soon as I heard Bocky was out and Trent had to go back to CHB,sure that was the difference.

I agree. :thumbsu:

If Nathan Bock can stay injury free I have no doubt in my mind that he can kick 60 – 65 goals this year.

Il say he dominated on the weekend, but he is nowehere in near the mould of Wayne Carey in his prime. He was nigh on impossible to shutdown (unless your name is Peter caven ;) )!! Hopefully he can become like Carey though! Definately better than his opposite number, being Tredrea. ;)
