His early season form is not as good as it was from last year.

NAB Cup he has not been Noticed a Heap(People can Fill this in) but I do remember Jack Riewoldt Beating him quite well against Richmond in QF.

Those I think when he been put Forward he looked Quite Dangerous and Taken some good mark and Kicked a Goal.

Your Thoughts?

Perhaps you should've put this in your "Notes from the NAB cup thread", given it's just that.

But I'll give you a response. He has certainly been down on form. I don't mind him up forward, but he is better down back. He'll come good during the year, and having Presti back will help him immensely.

This is more than just a One Line note.

I accept him to come good but I like him Forward so you could try and Swap him up Forward with JA going down back

The first REAL game hasnt even been played yet, and your already on the kids back...Its his 2nd year and hes already stopped Brown, Richo, Pav, etc in his first year, i think hes already done enough to say hes gonna be a 10-15yr player...who cares if the start to his 2nd year is a little down on his first year...

Think he has been ok.

Has been used as a sub a few times as well since most clubs havent played their KPP's. He has also been heavily rotated which is unusual for a full back.

We've really just eased him in. I've even seen him push forward for patches.

I have no concerns. Especially since we now have Presti who will take the number 1 forward. Brown, Harry and Maxwell will share the 2nd stringers. Its a good defence.

I agree. I don't think he has been that bad and I don't think the NAB Cup is necessarily the best indicator for key defenders.

He will be in the team come Round 1 and we can start assessing his form then.

Well if he has been Subbed that would explain why I have not seen him much and Does sound we are not Pushing him to hard too early

He'll be alright - the boy's a machine. He eats concrete! He'll start humiliating people come Round 1 :)

This is Nathan Brown we're talking about. Don't forget the proverb: 'Nathan Brown has counted backwards from infinity...twice'.

There is an urban legend that when he wakes up of a morning he hits himself in the head with a hammer just to see if it bleeds. When it doesn't, he weeps.

Get off his back, he's a twenty odd game full back who's embarassed a few guns already. He's huge, got pretty decent positioning, he can spoil and he can take a grab, will be a freak.

P.S. HarryO is our best defender by a country mile and one of the best in the comp

He played rubbish last preseason too, thats why we all loved his game rnd 1. No one, not one actually thought he would play well early last year after his pre season

His form towards the end of last season wasn't great either though and if we want to be totally negative we can find wholes in his good early jobs, had plenty of help taking Pav with woeful delievery and J Brown in the wet.

Regardless of all that there is no worries about him long term. Key defenders take lots of time there is a lot of learning to be done. His got all the aspects to be a top defender and has displayed them all at the highest level already. His naturally a great spoiler of the ball, his good at closing down the lead. His probably the strongest guy on the list, I think he could spare a bit of that strength if it helps with his mobility.

Either way long term his a great defensive prospect, remember most of the best full backs in the game where rubbish at the same stage of their career that Browny is at now. Just because he came out of the blocks strong does not mean he doesn't need the same time and learning curb as other young KPD.

Riewoldt out marked him once and can't remember Richmond, West Coast or Essendon kicking big scores him or against us.

He has been good without setting the world on fire.

Get off his back

I don't think he has been that poor.

He has been solid without being exceptional. Done his job, made the odd mistake here and there, but I personally think he is looking more athletic and quicker than he was last year. Possibly shed some puppy fat.

Good call actually.

I still remember some of his attempted kicking in that Norf game.

True he doesnt get the ball much but he's a developing key defender, im not fussed if he gets the ball just that he stops his opponent kicking goals. He gets it WAY more than Presti and look how good he's been. Stats are overrated in defenders I think.

The kids got a future, already good, will be fantastic.

Bzzzz.

Their disposal numbers are actually almost identical (Simon's about half a possession behind).

edit: Mind you, I don't necessarily think he needs to get a heap of it, just saying.

Agree i think he has been decent. I thought he was a little more attacking in his play this preseason made a few good stopping attempts i'm not worried he'll come good during the year especially with Presti back.

He's got this horrible technical flaw. When he's body on body he bends his knees to push and losses about 6 inches in height and gets easily outmarked above his head. Whoever is not getting this out of his game should be sacked, it's awful.

I think this thread has no merit what so ever

Last pre-season (vs. Adelaide) he played like crap, got towled up by Sellar of all people. This pre-season he has obviously been easing himself back into it and imo has no cause for concern.

The only criticism i have of him is his kicking, one day he is going to hit the roof of etihad...

He needs to do more I think. Check out his stats from last year -

I just dont think he gets enough of the ball but he sure does have potential.

Thats what attacking half back flankers are for - to get the possessions and break the lines.

I couldn't give a rats clacker if Brown gets under 5 p's every week, if his opponent has no influence in a game then he has done his job in my book
