what is with his grip on the ball when he lines up for goal? I'm just wondering if the way he holds the ball was the reason he missed so many set shot opportunities today. is that the normal way he approaches set shots?

He has always kicked that way. He has also always just lobbed it over the line.

He seems so tentative when he is in his run-up.

It has always looked awkward but it normally hits the mark.
This year his accuracy has deserted him so I suppose people are going to question if he is holding the ball right. I agree with Jim that his run up looks tentative

he lools like he is using a run up style that suits the gaelic game , compare him with Neitz approach to kicking for goal,however he was accurate in 2002

I'd say 4 goals wasn't a bad effort for the day considering he was double tagged for most of the game.

Yeah he always holds the ball like that. He just doesnt seem to be doing the run up like last year.

Yeah 4 goals isnt a bad effort but when you kick 4goals 5(i think a few didnt even make the distance as well) then you would expect him to kick a few more.

Give Bruton a go and add a little height to the forward line. Bandy can then be left to help out Darcy with the hit outs

There you go, he had 11 shots on goals, 4 goals is still good, but when you get a player like browny he should really kick more than 4

It is very easy to say we are too Brown conscious but too often today NOBODY would actually run and make an option for the person with the ball. We had too many pedestrians throughout the ground but especcially in the forward.

There are aboyut 5 talls I would play before Bruton. He can't run out a game in the 2nds yet.

I think putting one or two tall young guys ( i don't know which ones we have) in the forward line and having Johno and Brown in the midfield who can deliver it to them might work.

The oportunity might just allow the younger guys to play their best.

Personally i believe Brown is running to close to the man on the mark, not giving himself enough room, thats why he tends to run sidewards just before kicking.

I think a goal kicking coach should sort him out.

Holding the ball at an angle doesn't overly worry me. I don't think that affects his kicking.

Once he's outside 50, he's always going to be marginal as it's right on his distance. Not too concerned about his conversion rate from this distance.

Inside 50 he is good enough to be alot better than 50-50.

He has 2 main problems in my view:

1. He's prone to want to just sneak it over the line. This was more of a problem a few years ago but is still there. He should be told to aim to kick it over the fence every time.

2. When he's well within his distance, he just stabs it off about a 3 pace run up. He looks much better when the kick is about 45m and he takes a longer run to steady himself and kicks through it. He should be doing this all the time.

That's my armchair critic view anyway

2002 57.24 is a good conversion rate, compared to his 11.14 in 2003 to date. Brown is a good player in the forward line, he knows how to find the ball well, imo he should play there, i think all this talk to take him away is crap, i mean how many others in your team will get 11 shots on goal in a game?

Actually it was 13 shots on goal, but thats because we played with a fairly open forward line and looked for him all the time.

After a while the dees worked out the other forwards were just for show, and started double teaming nathan.

Rhodes has got to back a tall player at FF and use brown in a pocket or half forward flank.
