Saw this kid play a couple of times at the U18's carnival and he could be exactly what we need as a 2nd round pick.

Shaun Burgoyne type who is exceptionally skilled on both sides of his body, seems to have plenty of time and is very quick.

Was the only NT kid who made the All Australian side but with the depth of players in this years draft may slip out of the first round.

All Australian selection dont mean too much. Political decisions are made to appease all. He is quick and exciting. I cant see him being drafted in at least first three rounds if at all- possible rookie? Problem is he is pretty small. At his size you need to be extremely talented. Check out a kid called Joe Gazzo from the Calder Cannons. Similar size, very talented, similar question marks.

i'd be happy with Gazzo or Djerrkura. Seen both of them play, and either one will do !!

I dont think we need this type of player. we already have small running types. wee need KPPs or solid ball getters

Are you serious ?

There is not one player on the senior list who can break a line with the exception of Lovett.
Dyson has the potential but the players don't give him the ball or he doesn't get himself in the right positions.

Football's changed. The more runners the better. Look at Adelaide, the Eagles and the Bulldogs.

Get more runners into the club.

what about monfries?? what i am saying is we need solid players willing to go at the hard balls. Djerkurra and these types lack a little physical presence, and so do our players at the moments.

Adelaide have got : Reilly, Goodwin, Edwards, Mattner, Burton, Doughty, Thompson, McLeod, Shirley, Knights
West Coast have got : Judd, Cousins, Kerr, Embley, Rosa, Braun, Stenglein, Nicovski, Wirrpanda, Selwood, R Jones
Bulldogs have got : Gilbee, McMahon, Cooney, Griffin, Ray, Giansiracusa, Eagleton, Morris, Higgins

We have got : Dyson, Lovett, NLM, Camporeale

Football has changed so much in 5 years. Key position players are not the most important players anymore.

We've got some extractors in the Johnson boys, Watson, Monfries, Slattery.

We need more outside players.

Might want to add Stanton, Winderlich, Dempsey, Nash to that running list. Obviously there's queries over Dempsey and Nash (imo if Winderlich hadn't have injured himself at a most mis-opportune time he would have cemented himself).

As for genuine ball winners Watson's number 1. MJ is a part time midfielder, much better either forward or back. JJ, is struggling with an injury that could mean pre-mature retirement. Slattery will be a very solid back pocket before he becomes a midfielder, but I'll pay that. Monfries, yes, once he gets a body.

Frankly finding an inside footballer with the pace and skills to also play outside when the situation demands it (a certain Chris Judd being a fine example) is far more value than a pure outside player. But anyway we need both right now, in fact we need everything the draft can offer except perhaps ruckmen.

We just need to draft the midfielders with the best footballing brains. If we end up with Bryce Gibbs he would add a tone to our midfield.

Alot of these players mentioned, Cousins, Kerr, Goodwin etc aren't necessarily outside midfielders or hard nuts, they just read the game as well as anybody and know where to find the ball, that's what Jobe Watson is good at and he may very well win our B & F.

This is where we need to start if we want a strong midfield, I kow it is easier said than done but we need the midfielders with the more complete packages rather than just leg speed or a player who just thrives on being tough.

Interesting point that. I guess it shows how hard recruiting really is. We could recruit players in 06, that suit the style of game played now... but in five years time, the game could favour another type of footballer. Is it possible to predict the way the game will change?

Sorry for the off topic - the thought just came to me.

Agreed.
For instance if the AFL reversed the quick kick-in rule it would slow the game down and make the taller KPP more important.

However, from what we have seen over the past 15 years the game has got quicker and there is less reliance on the power forwards.

We've recruited enough key position players (Bradley, Ryder, Lee, Laycock, Johns) at relatively high picks in recent times to last us the next decade.

I'd be more inclined to go midfield in the first round (preferably outside types who can play inside), midfield 2nd round and then try and get a KPP smokey in the latter rounds.

For instance I'd rather go 1st Rd Gibbs, 2nd Rd Djerkurra or 1st Rd Jetta/Coltard, 2nd Rd Djerkurra than Sellers/Gumbleton/Hansen in the first round and a midfielder 2nd round.

Bradley no.6 (2003)
Ryder no7 (2005)
Lee no.30 (2004)
Johns 'rookie pick (2002)

Have you seen those talls play? Gumbleton and Hansen are genuine Number 1 picks in most drafts. Djerkurra as a second round selection is ridiculous. Jetta and cottard are both likely to go mid to late 1st round. Gibbs is a genuine talent and also a worthy 1st rounder. I would pick Gumbleton if I was Dodoro but I would happily have Bryce Gibbs. We will get two picks in the area 17-20 where we can possibly pick up midfielders of the capacity of cottard, proud, benjamin, moss, hislop etc. Add another good midfielder with pick 34-36 and a decent PSD selection and we will add a great deal of midfield depth and hopefully some additional speed.

I'd be happy if we were able to string out a couple of wins and keep our 73 year long wooden spoon stretch going, nothing wrong with Hansen/Gumbleton helping out the backline
i have no worriues with that but i'd like us to have the 1st selection in the PSD.

Goes to Scotch where my mate goes too, ive seen him play a few times there in the 1sts.......very good player and seems fairly happy, mate told me he has been doing interviews ever since his good games... but he reckons word is that Cyrol Rioli (Cyrol?!?!)... Well at school he is called Junior, but at the moment Rioli is going to be drafter before Djerr....

Either way Essendon would be a good home for either of these boys as there talent and flare would be appreciated and supported, be a good chance for essendon to pick up some talented youth, (compared to last years where there have been no early picks)

must draft em both.

djerrkura this year and rioli next year. They will both be superstars and in the same team - mouth watering.....

A school teacher of mine who also works with west coast said that Riolli isn't very good and got hyped up because of his last name. Is any1 else of the same opinion or is my teacher talking Sh|t.
