It has been quite a journey for this affable fair haired guy that produces magic from an ordinary white cricket ball. Sydney born, Ellis' early cricketing years were not shaped by elite academies but by the hard grind of club level competitions, which meant his development path was slower and less visible to state and national selectors.

Convinced he was never going to play first class cricket for his state he decided to pack his bags and head for the Apple Isle of Tasmania where he felt he had an easier pathway. This decision carried risk, as relocating meant leaving familiar support systems, but Ellis had learnt persistence and resilience from his earlier cricketing years. It paid off as he found a home with Lindisfarne Cricket Club in Hobart where he quickly established himself in both red and white ball comps.

TCA knew they had someone special on its hands with Ellis and a year after landing in his adopted state he was chosen for the Hobart Hurricanes and then the Tigers List A side and finally into First Class cricket where he captured 18 wickets in just two fixtures with best figures of 6-43 @16.

Meanwhile his white ball feats had captured the attention of the national selectors and in August, 2021 he became Australia's latest international cricketer. But this was not just any ordinary first game as he made history by being the first cricketer to take a hat trick on debut in a Twenty20 International match.

The rest is history.
