I'll preface this with the acknowledgement that he probably isn't good enough to play 100 games of AFL footy, but the 3 efforts he put in between Brucey crushing his shoulder and going off the field were bloody incredible. Guys like him set standards the others need to reach, even if he doesn't have the skill to match. JB could take a lot from Nafe...

Let's face it, the bloke's a bit of a nutcase that has the opposition looking over their shoulders out on the field as he simply has no fear and is willing to use his body as a missile. Maybe the coaching staff thought we needed more of that a couple of weeks ago. On the evidence of our wins against the Blues and the Cats with him in the team, you'd have to back their decision.

Watching the replay, and knowing his injury, he did some great stuff with and without the ball. Was a kamikaze a couple of times that must have taken enormous courage.

Gee, he's had some catastrophic injuries in his short career! He had a broken leg year one didn't he?

Well said. It's the quiet & unpredictable ones you've gotta be worried about. Wright is both.

Loved his game btw cracked in hard, added we fwd pressure, fought thru adversity & got us rolling with a couple of early sausage rolls.

Always loved Wright's play, shocking kicks aside. His best plays were up forward with those clinch goals! Should be a forward! On that note, didn't Roo kick a similar one last night for the same result?

I hope he goes well, his arm was in the sling after the game.

Roo & Gilbert also gifted goals under similar circumstances.

Really liked his game tonight, except for that one kick!

He is a seriously tough player.
Yeah he is the old fashioned " harder than a cats head" type of payer. I love the way he has a red hot dip.
Maybe his kicking may prevent him from being a starting 22 player when we are challenging again.
As so called 'depth ' players go. I think hes a good one.

One of my favourite players...cracks in like no other. Glad he got a run and subsequently played well last night.

Is this our line in the sand game?
I guess we will find out next week....
Certainly Etihad is the place to draw a line in the sand

Wright and Meatball should both keep their spots.

I like Wrights toughness, goes in like Jwebb, a few more tough players please, make that skillful tough players ;)

Broken leg & a broken jaw (the latter from a late Eddie Betts hip'n shoulder)

Agree. Would love to see him get another game right away, but I fear the injury will put paid to that, even if it's one that wouldn't necessarily require a rest. I'm guessing the club will require him to be 100% to play. Would be surprised if he didn't get another chance this year regardless though, on that effort.

There's always room on the list for a manic battler or two.

Yep. and in Webster we've got another one.
Will never forget him bowling over those two Carlton players :D

Edit: Jimmy is better than a battler, but he certainly qualifies as a maniac.

Our off-season is becoming a little trickier than it seemed to be. You'd say Minch has definitely earned another contract and Wright's inspirational run and toughness is something I'd like to keep at the club. Then there's Delaney who has showed us the value of having a gorilla defender on the list as backup (would not have liked to see Gilbert/Roberton up against Casboult and Hawkins). Some still rate Murdoch (I don't think he'll ever find enough of the footy to make it) and many want both Dempster and Fisher to stay. Lee is another tough one although Richo doesn't seem to have much love for him. Making way for 3-4 draft picks and a traded in player or two is becoming a little harder. Shenton and Curren are obvious outs, but it wouldn't surprise me to see all of Delaney, Wright and Murdoch still at the club next year, though possibly with one or two of them on the rookie list.

Sadly, I have my doubts about Fish for next year. If we do keep one, and I don't think we can keep two with Carlisle coming in too, Dempster seems to be the more durable of the two. I'm not being callous, because Sam has been one of the greats for the club, but it is about the future after all.

I agree. Chips has been very solid for us this year but I'd rather he go out on a high this year rather than as a 35 year old struggling for his spot in the team next year.
