1) In regards to $94B - Do you believe the people issuing the invoices and scoping the work or a politcial party appealing for support leading up to an election?
2) Re wireless - your right. So why do we need fibre to the home if places like france have decided there are better ways to achieve the same result?
I will answer.

1) Well, aside from knowing someone that works for NBN co who says this is rubbish. You can't show any of your sources so all we have is another political party saying what they think he voters want to hear. Who says your sources are telling the truth? Since the only document suggests the absolute worst case for 4 different aspects, I think it is unlikely to occur. I also think Labors prediction is also probably wrong.

2) for starters it is not even near the same result. To get the same result you would need a tower at the end of every street.

Lastly but most importantly, repeating again, the debate has moved on from wireless as all major political parties are pushing for a government funded NBN with fibre or copper. Your question is thus irrelevant.

Edit. Removed calling you a fanboi as you are still normally relatively fair.

How can you support a political party that doesn't even trust their own leaders?

Please don't post pictures of yourself in you Liberal cheer leading outfit (For future reference Labor cheer leaders wear red)

I'd also ask you to answer the question how can you trust a political party that gags it's own Ministers?

I was just about to put on my blue tie as a finishing touch! Friday night, here I come.

I am not sure on exactly what gagging has gone on but it is normal for organisations to have one mouth piece. Whilst in the military is was a chargeable offence to have an unauthorised conference with the media.

In public company life, the ASX and ASIC have laws on communication and company's have policies on regards to communication to preserve integrity, regulatory penalties and avoid confusion.

So if this is a standard professional protocol, I have no issues with politicians observing restraint.

Good thing it doesn't...

Commenced means action towards it taken, that could be just contracts or early planning. I would suspect some of the commenced would continue and some wouldn't.

Access clearly means every household within the same scope actually are able to connect to it.

Sorry, I was being facetious. I stated NBN's definition of 'commenced' above, and said why it is meaningless.

It was probably unwise of Abbott to make very specific promises of what they could deliver on NBN rollout, even if it was just a door stop at Croydon shops. They promised a comprehensive review of the NBN after the election which is what they are doing. Specific rollout figures will drop out of that.

Contrast that with the back of an envelope plan by Labor. Conroy has now admitted that the NBN rollout targets were overambitious. It's a shame he did not also admit that

i) the NBN was initiated on the strength of those overambitious plans
ii) the NBN was kept off-budget on the strength of those overambitious plans
iii) that even when Conroy knew NBN rollout figures were overambitious he continued to announce further unrealistic targets
iv) the NBN rollout was targeted at marginal seats

The blame for the failure to meet targets is the contractors. Look up AS2124 ;)

A comprehensive review!?!?

Oh my stars hahahaha

Oh come on we can trust the liberals on this I'm sure they're having the review Carried out by the productivity commission and ensuring there's a proper cost to benefit analysis, before making a decision on the best way to do the rollout.

I'm sure they wouldn't back out of that election promise in favour of a hand selected sub group who's goal is to use the review to do nothing more then justify and the liberal's preferred model to the Australian people wether it's the most cost effective or not.

And we will have ended up spending more than double the amount. I'm amazed otherwise sensible people cannot see past their noses on this.

it was already double that amount. That is why we abandoned pork barrelling for a sensible scope.

Why tender if you don't think you can deliver? Especially when you get hit with Liquidated Damages if you don't hit the PC date?

better still, be one of the contractors who pick up the work without competition as the initial contracts fall over.

But...you're going to have to do it anyway. You just said that.

FTTN is not a midpoint - it's not a stepping stone to FTTH.

20 years is a long time and you will find the ftth equivalent will be completely different and cheaper ie it maybe wireless or some other technology. what people need to understand is we are currently looking at building a titanic, where we should be widget building as we will outgrow whatever we build very quickly.

Anyone that suggests wireless could be faster than fibre should repeat year 10 physics....

what do you think the technological solution will be in 20 years?

You will find that you are wrong. The Coalition's network will be outdated before it's even begun, while the FTTH is futureproof, upgradable because the backbone will be in place. But you refuse to see that for some reason.

Bookmarking this thread for 20 years time.

Any doubt that you had any knowledge of this technology just evaporated. It was like Alan Jones crapping on about a Swiss technology that would make our FTTH outdated before being reminded we were using the same fibre technology... Never mentioned that again.

Fibre without doubt. Much faster and much more uses in 20 years but the main transport medium I have no doubt it will be fibre at multitudes faster than what is currently available.
