Just having a surf through ESPN.com and all the so called experts of the website had there predictions...just thought some if it was interesting reading.
David Aldridge, a journo for ESPN.com has Timmy D as his MVP...now i had pretty much given the award to Jason Kidd but Aldridge makes a good case. Kidd has more to work with, Van Horn, Kittles, Martin, big T-Mac, Jefferson compared to Duncans help. Over the hill Robinson, over the hill Smith...a rookie PG who went missing in big chunks of the season and Rose off the bench??
Duncan is top 6 in the league in 5 different categories, scoring...5th, rebounds...2nd, blocks...4th, minutes...6th and double doubles...1st. On top of that he has raised his free-throw percentage from last year's horrible .618 to .801, and he's shooting better than 50 percent from the floor.
Aldridge makes a pretty good case for The Big Fundamental.
Aldridge continues to impress me with his predictions, he has Gasol for ROTY which is a given. Corliss "The Big Nasty" Williamson for 6th man of the year award and Ben Wallace for Defensive POTY. All of those i agree with. At this point in his article im thinking this guy knows what he's talking about but then.....he ends with his All NBA 1st 2nd and 3rd teams...and it left me doubting his judgement.
His first team was good....
G - Jason Kidd
G - Tracy McGrady
F - Tim Duncan
F - Chris Webber
C - Shaquille O'Neal
His second team goes ok up until he hits the C spot.
G - Kobe Bryant
G - Paul Pierce
F - Kevin Garnett
F - Dirk Nowitski
C - Dikembe Mutombo ???????????
What's with the Mutombo selection? I thought Mutombo had a pretty poor season compared to last season and i thought it was clear that the best 3 bigmen on the year was O'Neal, O'Neal and Wallace. Look at the stats. Wallace loses in one category...scoring. Mutombo gets 11.5ppg to Wallace's 7.5ppg. Wallace outrebounds him 12.9 to 10.8, dishes more dimes, 1.4 to 1.0. Blocks more shots, 3.46 to 2.38 and shoots better from the floor .526 to . 510. Wallace's only weakness is his free throw shooting where he goes a torrid .415.... Wallace is a shoe in for Defensive POTY and i thought was definitely a 2nd team or at least 3rd team selection behind the 2 O'Neal's. Wallace is the biggest reason Detriot are now one of the favourites to come out of the East and Mutombo went missing when he needed to step up in AI's absence.
His third team was
G - Gary Payton (tie)
G - Andre Miller (tie)
G - Allen Iverson
F - Karl Malone
F - Antoine Walker
C - Jermaine O'Neal
And where is Jordan in the All NBA teams...he easily had a better season than Antoine Walker, MJ averaged 22.9ppg, 5.7rpg and 5.2apg and turned the Wizards from a cellar dwellar with 19 wins into a playoff calibre team with 36 wins. Cant say that he didnt play enough ball because Iverson and Jordan both played 60 games this season yet Iverson gets chosen??? MJ was 1st team in my books up until the injuries, he still deserved a 2nd or 3rd team berth IMO.
10 journos over at ESPN.com gave there season awards and the MVP was almost split with 5 to Kidd and 4 to Duncan, the other vote went T-Mac's way....im having difficulty picking one now myself.
Thoughts....and cmon ppl this place has been dead lately...answer me dammit!!!
