First I have heard of this. First reaction is wtf. Not a big fan of the tigers but have respect for them being a wildcat fan. Way to crap on a clubs history, way to crap on the leagues history. It won't be the same going to see the cats tipoff against this Melbourne team.

Is this united idea a ploy to nip any other Victorian teams making a come back if the league were to take off again. " oh sorry but we have adopted that teams history into our own (even though we had nothing to do with them) so you won't have their fans. "

No. It's to adopt their fans as their own. They're trying to be representative of them *cough, cough*

There will be a second Melbourne club. Age article a couple of days ago said that that team was to be "Melbourne United." Looks like Slepoy and Kestelman got in to avoid that happening. Now they'll find some other name and be playing out of the new basketball stadium in Knox and occasionally in Dandenong (both southeastern suburbs; essentially the Magic's old territory)

The second Melbourne team will be more popular than Melbourne United.

Agreed. However, I don't believe that to be particularly difficult. Though I live on the other side of town to where they'll be likely playing will be tempting to support them for the simple matter that they're not United.

Agree, trouble is if Melbourne FC fail, it might be the death knell for the comp.

We need to get Brisbane and a 2nd NZ franchise in ASAP

It was a mere formality that he was going to sign with the Tigers prior to them changing their team name. Apparently with the public outcry he's the third free agent that has had a change of mind in signing with Melbourne 'not so' United.

Congratulations Tom on staying true to your Wildcats and having a conscious.
