Who wants him to replace Sheedy? I think it is a very strong possibilty, but I for one do not want it to happen. He had a fairly decent record with Melbourne, but I do not like his gameplans, and the guys he has tried to persist with at Melbourne - Yze, Miller etc.

I would hate to have his coaching mentality at Essendon.

What does everyone else think? Agree? Disagree?

The only thing that rationalises the board's action - announcing that they will decide Kev's future in 3 weeks, then announcing he will not be coaching next year today - is that they want Neale, and so does someone else.

Neale would have refused to even consider negotiations with the Bombers until the public announcement was made, to the point where he would even have refused to recognise the possability of an Essendon vacancy when negotiating with other potential suitors - he is just that honorable a bloke.

I would hazard a guess that him making this very clear to the Essendon board bought on the sudden change of song, and the immediate announcement that Sheedy would not be senior coach of Essendon in 2008.

I think Gary O'Donnell is the only former Bomber for the job.

If not a Bomber, John Longmire or Guy McKenna.

The last thing we want is a coach who has spent the better part of the past two seasons getting thrashed.

Neale Daniher comes accross as a gentleman and a nice man but his results with Melbourne do not make me want to roll out the red carpet..Take a punt on someone young and fairly raw..

I think it has to be a coach with experience to replace Sheedy. The shoes are too big to fill for a person who has never coached a Senior AFL game.

I think in this case it is Daniher who fits the bill best, I think he can work with the squad over a three year contract and develop them nicely.

If it is not Daniher they would have to go with a untried coach, I feel sorry for a person who has never been coached being compared to Sheedy which will naturally happen.

Connally and Pagan are the other two options. Pagan was at Essendon at one stage as a assistant so could be a chance. Connally I would be surprised but is a good coach so could also be a option.

I'd also have McKenna as my number 1 choice. Has big raps from Malthouse and Carey. He'd be someone that will play tough hard footy.

Neale would do great at Essendon. He never really appeared to have the full support of Melbourne, and Melbourne isnt exactly a powerhouse in any case - yet he still took the basket case club to a bunch of finals and only didnt go "all the way" because he ran into (statistically) the best team *ever* on grand final day, 2000.

Pity Luke Molan broke his leg. Amazing that a kid no one ever heard of hurting himself in 2002 might have been the death of Daniher's career 5 years later... Molan was taken in the top 10, as a potential gun CHB. Never played an AFL game.

What is Melbourne desperately missing this year?

A gun CHB.

Interesting to see what happens at Essendon. Daniher would be pleading his case very early for the job but didn't Harvey meet with Sheedy last week prior to accepting the "Freo Caretaker Role" for the rest of the season? Hmmm...... Also interesting to see that Bomber and Geelong are delaying any decisions on thier future. Sooooo many choices yet very big shoes to fill.:thumbsu:

i really don't want daniher. he achieved nothing at melbourne with a good list

how can sack one of the greatest coaches ever for a sacked coach???

we have to go with new blood

Did anyone else hear Harvey's press conference the other day? Maybe it was nerves but he didn't sound that impressive. I know it's silly to judge him on that but its just a feeling I have.

All the evidence does seem to point towards us picking up Daniher. Seems like a good bloke but I will not be happy if it happens. Just can't see what his appeal is.

Would be kinda of interesting to see what daniher could do at a club whoc can afford to spend some money, and have good facilities.

i was in a conversation with sheedy 10-15 years ago and he was dam certain then that Neale Daniher would or should be the next coach at essendon... said his footy brain was the best he'd ever seen

as an outsider I thought sheedy did seem remarkably contained at press conference; which would be understandable if he approves of his successor

is it possible that neale wil coach with sheedy as director of football ops or some type of supporting role/advisor

i find it unlikely, but it would be fantastic if he did stay at the club
