This guy is a brick wall, almost impossible to tackle. He’s honestly really surprised me how well he’s done, I thought he’d be a depth player at best but he’s seriously stacking a claim for a permanent spot in the midfield. Makes me feel better about Mitchell not being available.

Muscle car protecting the Lamborghini , Naicos must love the little give offs from Ned

Love the analogy.

I saw Nick talking to Long in the warm up. Seemed to be encouraging him, perhaps along the lines of ‘just do what you did last week Ned, and I’ll sort out the rest’. :p

Ned reminds me a bit of Shane O'Bree, was a bit of a whipping boy but did the inside work that made our outside users look good. Got us to 2 Gf's with him in the team, maybe Ned can be for Nick what Shane was for Bucks.
Ok - but then help us to W i N the freakin thing 💪

Like an earworm it had been killing me watching him run around and looking like someone that I couldn’t name. Then there was the hit up of Hill and the way he whipped the ball around his body. The way he moved was both powerfully athletic and at the same time robotic. It hit me instantly, Elliott Yeo. He won’t reach that level, but bugger me it was good to make the connection (others will probably disagree, but it’s who I see).

Like so many of these fringe types the main query hovering over Long continues to be ball use. He does a lot of the contest stuff really well, but has a knack of letting himself down when it’s time to execute. I don’t know if he gets on top of that in a meaningful way, but my guess is if he’s in the clubs long term plans the Connor Nash career arc would seem his go.

Ned Long an how he’s playing is why you need to give these fringe players blocks of games to actually give them a chance to show their wares and improve

Fin Macrae has asked if you can tag the coach in this post.
And Fly has him on ignore anyway because Long has more strings to his bow. He’s a big, fitter and faster version of Macrae. Still no guarantee of making it, but in that role he’s got a lot more to offer than Macrae.

Rupert Wills, Brayden Sier and now Ned Long.
As far as I’m concerned, Sier has the most ability of this trio, but not the dedication. Wills was very strong, but also very slow in his decision making.
Long’s attack on the ball is first rate but his disposal really lets him down. I hope he can make it but I’m not sold.

The selection committee clearly thinks he fills a need better than Fin McCrae, and better than Ed Allen as well for that matter.
3 weeks of good contributions.

His kicking action looks awkward, so I’m hopeful that can be improved with some focus and coaching.

He’ll get another contract.

Yeo is a good call.

You can kinda see with Nash, Day, Worpel etc why Long was surplus at Hawthorn.

If he can provide that Nash type role for us and keep his disposals tidy he has a place.

This guy is an animal. Reminds me of the wills/Phil inn role but I think this guy will be better.

I love to see our players described as ‘animals’. He is a physical brute, and the whole (and new for us) connection between Nick and Ned is emerging as an early season highlight. Oppo fans and media are commenting on it too, so it’s a ‘thing’. (Rubs hands together in delight).

Did you see the kick to Bobby?
