Hampson. Also the first time I have seen Hampson play. In terms of development he probably has further to go than just about anyone on our list, but ____ me, if the boy can develop a footy brain we will have one unstoppable big man. I remember one long sprint he had to put in to win the ball on the wing, and he just put the ears back and burnt those around him. I can't think of another big guy in the league who even comes close to matching him for pace.

What about the time (last Q, I think) when from a mile away (well out of picture) he nearly ran down Varcoe screaming through the middle!

Where else could this pace be utilized? Train him up to become a Paul Salmon full forward and later a ruckman (if we swap Fev,as the rumour mill is suggesting lol)

A slow player + a good sprint coach = a faster player. I've seen guys get coaching from experienced sprint coaches take over 1-2 seconds off their 100m time and improve their 20m time considerably. Correct technique and proper training drills do wonders.:thumbsu:
In the old days a lot of players would turn to the old pro running coaches to find a yard - I wonder if their replacements are just as savvy?

Let's not get carried away over Benji and Ando.

Pretty hard too if they never play senior footy.

You see i look at the other lists and i see indigenous like,
Davey, Campbell, Pearce, Corrie, Lovett, Lovett-Murray and Wonaeamirri, genuinely exciting fast players, and you know what?

They were all rookies.
Passed on by every side through 4 (or is it 5) rounds of the draft.
Read their profiles "lightly built, super quick, great goal sense".
No-one knew squat about them.

Is it that we just don't know what makes indigenous players tick?
or is it better to have them running around on bog hole VFL ovals in the middle of July.

At least give these blokes a run in the Big Show, because i am getting jack of seeing the same old guys trotting out 60 games in 8 years.

The quickest way to get pace is not necessarily to draft/select faster runners. More often than not the ability to win the ball create space for your teammates and move the ball intelligently will make all our players look faster.

Put simply if we have the ball they are chasing us and look slower.

Just look at last week against geelong where there were moments that bartel and corey were running away from us. They looked fast but if it was a foot race with the same starting points then they wouldn't be leading.

It is a lot quicker to link handballs or kick over a certain distance than run the ball over that same distance.

How the Gordon Ramsay would I know?? I'm being completely egocentric and going by my rough rankings.:p

Fisher for Davey would do me (as long as we got Roughead :))

Now ABC2 has done a Steve Fosset, hopefully we get a better look at Yarran when WA play at Casey and the Dome.
Are you insinuating we're interested in Jordan Roughead in the draft? ;) :p

A phantom draft on the WCE board has Carlton taking him at six and no Hamish Hartlett.

You are wrong. There are no common terms, therefore Walks + Benji + AJ + Hammo + Grigg + Ando is as far as you can simplify the equation.

Gibbs in the midfield will add great speed.

Legspeed is on thing but what Gibbs has is speed in gather - decision - disposal. He doesnt need to run quickly because the ball is moved on before he can be touched. G Williams was not quick but was still the best because of similar attributes.
