After some soft Rock Cd's. Please help me as I've been completely out of the loop for the past 6 months. Anything from this year would be good.

"Soft Rock" refers to the likes of the Bee Gees and Bryan Adams does it not? :D

I was referring more to current Soft Rock. Stuff like Keane, Jack Johnson and Oasis. Perhaps I should have said softer rock.

Opeth - Damnation (2003)

A bit out of the mainstrem stuff, but this is one of my favourite albums ever. It doesn't exactly fit in with Jack Johnson and co., but i'm sure you would appreciate it's majestic songs, and I'd plug an album of theirs at any opportunity.

Opeth are primarily a progressive death-metal band, but also have many jazz-inspired influences, and this is basically an album of their best soft material. No screaming like other records, no buzzsaw- and evil-sounding guitar riffs, just the nostaligic tones of Mikael Akerfedlt's voice supported by brilliantly written and structured music.

For something completely different:
Greg Graffin: Cold as the Clay.
Folky-rocky solo albumn by the lead singer of punk outfit Bad Relegion.

Is that the one with Predicament on it - brilliant song

Have you even heard this album? Or are you just writing it off because Opeth are labelled as a death-metal band.

You're kind-of right, I've heard 2 songs from it but I was basing some from My arms, you're hearse but I still dont think it would appeal a soft rock fan (assuming he likes Keane and Coldplay) with the progressive feel but it depends if he's exclusivly mainstream soft rock or doesnt mind some experimenting. Maybe if he said what type of soft-rock he likes as well this would've been easier. The two songs I heard didnt appeal to me so I didnt continue any further but Borgsta can obviously make up his own mind if he decides to get it.

Define stuff you "can listen to at work".. does that mean stuff that a) doesn't need huge amounts of attention to listen to, or b) is it just anything that isn't too extreme or offensive because you have co-workers and customers/clients around you?

I have point b to consider when bringing CDs in to work, and find that instrumental CDs fit the bill quite well, so depending on where you're coming from, it might be worth a go.

Don't discount this album though. Atleast download a track or two just to get a taste. Not one person that I know has disliked this album.

This album opened my ears up to a new level of melodic music.

He obviously didn't read your description and just saw the word Opeth and wrote it off. You've inspired me to sample a couple of songs from the album (me not being a fan of any metal, let alone death) :thumbsu:
