Both? :D

My memory says Johncock early, Reilly late.

I think it was out of these two though.

I'm pretty sure Doughty did a bit of kicking out last year too.

mainly Johncock and Reilly for sure (NEVER Bassett), and at least they looked for options - Benny had them but wasn't interested. He did kick to himself and run off a bit - it looked a little better but still tended to kick long.
I guess they dont think much of Rutten kicking in and he is a good long option anyway. Can't think of anyone else back there who would inspire you with their kicking.
There must be a coaches plan surely

Well, FWIW, the opinion of my West Coast supporting cousin was - NC outcoached Woosha, but he didn't have the cattle; the Crows were more disciplined and had a game plan, West Coast less so, he's feeling lucky they won.

I think that's a strong call, but an interesting one.

Is Benny our best option?

I wouldn't have Benny kick out. He can actually take a contested mark. He should be one of the options for us to kick to!

Clarke should take the kick out, it's not like he ever takes a mark from a kick out :D

Now that WOULD be good comedy value!

We'll go easy, mate. ;) Welcome aboard.

Actually you've raised one point which alone cost us the game yesterday.

I shuddered every time we kicked a point. WCE kicked 4 goals from kick-ins from points.

On the other hand, we seem to have absolutely zero set plays when we kick- in from points.

I've just reduced that mark for the coaching panel to somewhere between 5/10 and 6/10.

Exactly right. Every team but us seem to have a couple of set plays from the kick off, but we dont. Three talls on their own in the centre (re Essendon last year) is still a nightmare.

Now that certainly is interesting.

I didn't think NC had a bad day at the office as far as coaching is concerned. I honestly tought his match day coaching was pretty good against WC.

Stiffy, overall I thought NC was passable. However, at the end of the day, his performance reminded me of Garry Ayres.

What I mean is that the game plan NC went in with worked pretty well for most of the game. But when things got tight and match-day decisions to save the game needed to be made he (and his coaching group) perhaps weren't as quick off the mark as they could have been (eg. the Embley matchup). In that respect, Worsfold DID outcoach him when it mattered. The same way Pagan did in that disastrous home match versus Carlton last season.

Much too early to assess him yet. Come the mid-season break, we'll know more.

I mentioned earlier that along with AFC, Neil Craig will also develop over time.

I do not expect him to be a master match day tactician because he is clearly not that at this stage. However, I think Craig is the sort of person who learns from mistakes. I have no doubt that NC will be better coach when his contract expires at the end of 2007 season than he is now. Whether he is good enough to take this club to the holy grail remains to be seen. So before we jump on him whenever he does or doesn't do something, keep in mind that in AFL coaching terms he is a rookie and as such he will make mistakes. The same way rookie players make mistakes. Even though he might have been slow to make a move we do have to give him credit with the strategy he went into the game with. While I hate flooding, at least it showed that he is prepared to do something different. Lets give him some time before we try to be too critical but I am sure people will continue to call for his head whenever we lose a game and when ever the going gets tough ;)

Nature of the football supporting beast, I'm afraid.

As others have stated, come mid-season we should be able to more studiously assess Doc Craig's merits. He deserves at least 12 matches before we really start bagging or praising him.

OK, here's a question.

On Sunday I spent some time with the binoculars on the midfield at centre bounces. And I got this feeling (maybe I'm wrong) that the turnover of the midfield was very high - almost every bounce it seemed there was a different group in there.

Rotation is one thing, I got the impression there was a LOT of it on Sunday. It could be the hot conditions, it could have been trying different combinations - and I don't know if it was necessarily a bad thing, but I do wonder whether there was a lack of stability / continuity there.

Any thoughts?
