This being my favourite sport...to play of course...just thought I'd start a topic on it, if anyone else here plays as well! What position do you play, what position do you prefer, how long have you played, etc etc.

I have trained since I was 6 and played since I was 8, so this is my 9th year. At the one club. For 8 years I played WA or WD, with a half year stint in GK back in 99. Every now and again I got chucked in a different position. Even Centre! :( I hate C and GD, centre I am not fit enough for and GD...well I just don't like it. Now that I am the oldest on the team, I've been given a position promotion :D - now I play GS, and perhaps a quarter out at GA. I play U17, but if I play senior netball then I get put in GA. If our team is getting desperate then I get stuck back on the wing coz of my experience. But I find I am enjoying my netball much more now that I have been moved off the wing.

Anyone else?

I don't play netball now (although I wish I did). But I played 5 seasons a few years back. I played most of that time in GD because I was fairly tall. Sometimes I was put back in GK or even at GA. I remember our Prelim one season I think it was, well the coach thought I was shooting goals well at training so she put me in GA for a half and I scored about 15 goals and won it for us! lol that was great :p Seeing as though I was pretty sick of GD by then!!
One season I played both school and club netball and in one team I played GD, the other I couldn't miss any goals in GA...it was strange! But at least it was some variety.
If we ever had a huge lead going into the last quarter, we would get our bibs and throw them up and whatever one we got, we got to play in that position...that was great :D
I remember losing this one final by one goal...our players didn't know if we'd won/lost but I'd been keeping track and it wasn't good! The next season we lost the GF so I only have a silver medal to show.

I played at inter-school sport once, mainly rotating thorugh centre and the wings. Only once though, the skirt didn't suit me.

I played my first game in months for my younger sister's team last night. They were a player short cos one of them had cracked the sads with another (massive drama queens, these chicks).
Anyways I played GK and we thrashed them. GK is my best possie cos I'm tall and strong and I don't have to run around much.

I've only been playing for a few years, first team was with a group of friends for a couple of seasons, then I played in a mixed team with my sis, cousins and aunts. After that I played with some school friends and we won the grand final (after winning the semi during schoolies - we came back from Lorne just to play netball, completely hungover and sunburnt :)).

Well i began playing on the weekends for my Primary School team when i was 5. Spent 9 years playing there, in just about every position. Went on to play squad and represent the Mornington Peninsula (Played and Trained up to 6 times a week) for the next two years. Then took a bit of a break and 2 seasons later started playing for Mornington, were i still am now.
Won quite a few Premierships since i first began (about 10) and
Also represented my school in a number of state championships.
Position: Center

played my first game when i was 5 filling in for my friends team who was 2 years older than me playing C the whole game, i played all through primary skool in GA, GS & C and continued in high school playing the same positions, my year 8 team actaully made it to the national championships in Malaysia!, unfortuately, i badly injured my shoulder a few weeks before we were to leave and i had to be pulled out of the team so i didn't get to go! they won that championship too! so yeah missed out on a bit but it was alright in the end! so yeah i'm still playing for the skool team in the SIS competition!

I don't anymore, I was just wondering the other day how I'd go about starting up a friendly team.
I started playing in grade 4 - I played at a school in Essendon, St Peters? I played a few postions for about 2 months, and then one day I got put into GK and did such a good job that I stayed there for 6 years in 3 leagues. After St Peters, I played for school, and over at the Sunbury league they used to have. It was a really good set up for kids because you didn't organise your team, you just signed up at the league, and each season, they'd arrange the teams evenly, from the information they'd been given by the coach from the last season - ie there was an even spread of height and quality players. I played GK mostly then as well, although once in a blue moon I'd come out to WA. After I turned 15, I was too old for that league, but didn't know anyone in Sunbury, so couldn't organise my own team there so I joined two teams of one of my friends - at Taylor's Lakes, and St Albans. By then I was too short to be as good as I used to be at GK, so I played a lot of WA. I didn't play after that, but if I could, I'd probably play WA, because I'm too short for GK, and although I can shoot, I don't know that I'm good enough to be either GA or GS. (Oh, and can I add, that while I think WA is one of the most fun positions, WD, is HORRIBLE! It's like, you don't get any credit for stopping goals like GD or GK, but you have to follow the WA, and it's hard to be really involved in the play. I hated playing that. Eeek!

used to play... wanna start up again...
i'm not quite sure where i play... honestly anywhere but my fave position has got to be GD...
i can run, i can jump, defend... i'm not such a good runner, but during a netball game i can be fast and run the whoel thing out, no probs... i jsut love it so much!!!
i also like playing GA... coz i love shooting, but i still prefer defence...
when we play at school, we don't have very good players so it's easy for me.. but i think if i started with a REAL club, i wouldn't be all that good hehe... in primary school i was never very good, always played WA or WD... and hated it.. well loved playing, but always wished i cold be another position... occassionaly i got GS...

Well i don't play, but my gf has played for 12 years. She plays GK, and plays very well so her coach says, but she also coaches and LOVES that. i've just started to go and watch her and try understand whats going on, starting to like the sport.

I stopped playing mixed netball just last year.
I used to play centre but as I got older and fatter migrated to the wings. Liked WA because I'm a good passer but also WD for the intercepts. Also played GA occasionally because I'm a good shooter, but as again I got fatter, the leap diminished. Really liked playing GD GK as a challenge to beat people taller than me.

Over time I went from a 20 year old 5'6" 62kg athletic runner who had the leap to touch the ring :D

To a 30 year old 5'6" 85kg "power" athlete lucky to be able to touch the second colour of net.

Still play basketball though and have changed style of play remarkably in 10 years.
Used to be, jump high for rebounds, attack basket for lay ups.
Now, belt people out the way for rebounds, hit the three, probably works better to. ;)

Also liked that smaller Netball, turned me into a ball handling supremo

Shame you didn't get taller as well to keep up the trend with your age and weight :)

I have absolutely no doubt if I was 2 feet taller I'd be in the NBA!
