ok guys, i need some help.

i'm trying to network my home pc, with another at home (it's a piece of junk but handy for a back up etc).

i've got myself a linksys modem/router in one and have that up and running with my number 1 pc.

i want to connect to the other pc and have internet access etc but the connection lead i have isn't the right one.
it seems i need a usb connection for the pc as there is no ethernet connection ???

what do i need and will it work immediately when i get what i need ?

I assume you have your main home pc connected to the router using a provided ethnet cable that came with the router? So for the other computer, how are you planning to connect it, wireless or wired? If you want wired, you would run a second ethnet cable from the router to that pc (however you mention that pc doesnt have an ethernet port?). If you want to do it wirelessly, you have to get some form of a network card, whether that be either usb or an actual card that you slot into the motherboard. Once you do that, both comptuers would be running off your network & would be able to use the net, share data, etc

Get yourself a cheap 10/100 Ethernet PCI card because you ain't going to achieve what you want using USB. If your "piece of junk" doesn't support that kind of technology (10 base T ) well............

You can pick up a generic pci network card for $10 from the swap meet or one of the many computer stores around melbourne. Get a cat 5 straight through cable (network cable) to connect the PC to the router, and it's pretty much plug and play.
