Hi, everybody!

Thrilled to have found this great forum, and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone. I'll fill out a few of the more relevant pieces of info from the stickied post, just for fun, but I'd like to introduce myself in paragraph form first.

My real name's Duncan, and as you can see, I'm from the US of A. I'm 23 and just out of university, with a degree in theatre arts. I spent a month in Perth as an exchange student back in 2007, which is when I discovered and fell in love with this great sport, although I'd vacationed to Australia a few times before with my family, and definitely hope to do so again someday.

I picked the Saints as my team back then for the somewhat silly reason that my high school used the same team nickname, but whatever the initial reason, once you've aligned yourself and made that emotional investment, that's where you stay! I also have a soft spot for the Tigers, seeing as my hometown is Richmond, Virginia, and for the Dockers, since I was obligated to choose between them and the Eagles during my stay in Perth, and they were the first team I had the chance to see play live. (Also, purple's my favorite color.) (Also, my host family were Eagles fans, and I wasn't as fond of them as I was of most of the other people I met during my stay, so picking the Dockers was a bit of a screw you to them.) Here in the States, I've grown up with ice hockey as the sport of choice in my family, following the New York Rangers and the Phoenix Coyotes.

The main reason I discovered the BigFooty boards and decided to join is actually the Graphic Design sub-forum. I don't have the skill level (or the technology) of a professional designer, but I'm a devoted hobbyist who enjoys a bit of jumper design now and then. Once I've reached the necessary 25 posts, I actually have a portfolio of National Hockey League team crossover jumpers that I'd love to share, and some ideas for a crossover going the other way as well, AFL teams to hockey jerseys. But while I expect to be found in that sub-forum most often, I'm also looking forward to the boards being a way to keep up with the footy news and follow the AFL more closely, which hasn't been the easiest thing to do during the past half-decade. Anyways, It's great to be here, and I'll see everybody around!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

If you're in New York you should look up the New York Magpies and have a play :)

Oh, man, that sounds great. I'll definitely be sure to do that, I sorely miss live footy.

Barracking for the Saints means a lifetime of sorrow.

So it would seem... It's all been downhill since the drawn Grand Final. And once I learned the club's history, it became pretty clear what I was in for. But at least it'll make the victories all the more exciting!

How can somebody support the Rangers and the Coyotes? Do you support the Giants and the Cowboys?????

Hmm, I've never been aware of any cross-continental rivalry between the two. I grew up in a city without any pro sports (most people latched onto Washington D.C. as the closest teams, but I didn't much care for them), and for a variety of reasons I ended up gravitating towards New York and Phoenix during my formative years. The Rangers are always #1, though!
