New Coach's Biggest decision

I really feel sorry for the new coach in 2010. He will be placed in the unenviable position of deciding the future of many older but great players for the club including the greatest of them all, RICHO!

However the hardest decision of all has to be deciding on Polak. Not from a business angle, and lets face it, it is business, but from an emotional point of view and knowing the massive scrutiny this will attract.

Thoughts...............

If it looks like he will be able to make it then he deserves a 1 year extension (Polak) but with slightly reduced pay and as for the great man Richo...should he be let go with the Cho still wanting to play then it will create havoc and a massive pile of shit will be on the doorstep for certain.

hey LJT I agree on Polak but can you imagine all the reports of the new coach having no heart etc if he delisted him. Who ever take over better have thick skin because regardless they will be starting off on rocky terrain I reckon

I think the second half of the year will decide Polaks fate. He needs to improve a hell of a lot to prove he can make it back to AFL level. The medicos will probably have a big say in this decision as well.

The new coach will have many difficult decisions to make to take this club forward.

1. Will Richo play on?
  • I doubt the decision will need to be made by the new coach. Richo has heart like PharLap but I believe he has allready made the decision and will likely not wan't to start again with a new coach, new ideas, new game plan.
IMO he will announce that he will retire in round 21 this year against Hawthorn at the "G".

2. Will Polak be on the list?
  • The pro's are his age and his performance prior to his accident.
  • The con's are the injury he sustained may have some lasting effects that may hinder his progress next year.
IMO he will be tapped on the shoulder and given the opportunity to retire. No shame in that, the fact he's back playing VFL is a credit to him and the medico's.:thumbsu:

The new coach will have to way up the pro's and con's of each and every player on the list and decide if they are likely to contribute towards his game plan. We have an abundance of similar sized players that have thus far failed to live up to expectation. We also have a number of players in their twilight and the value of these players will be debatable.

At the end of the day their will be wholesale changes to the list, their has to be.:thumbsu:

The coach will be under immense scrutiny from day one to show imediate imrovement and results, the fans will be waiting for an opportunity to applaude and.................abuse.

I don't envy his job:thumbsd:

Unfortunately Richo and Polak will both probably have to go unless polak strings a few good games together for the burgers, if we were in a position where we could win the premiership next year richo would have stayed but where we are now unfortunately he has to go

johnson
king
silvester
symmonds
brown
pettifer

probably the 6 most likely to go. a couple could swap around but remember every player you delist needs to be replaced. you cant go into 1 draft with any more than 6 picks really, unless theyre all high picks, which they wont be if we are delisting guys.

polak and richo have a spot on the team next year.

at the moement there are about 6-7 guys we can agree we think can move on, so why does richo have to move on, let him retire when he wants. i would not be happy if we forced him to retire. give him next year, if he wants to go on and he is playing good, hell give him another year.

beat me by a couple of mins. except i'm pushing for richo to have another year.

If the new coach does not make the hard decisions and cold hard bussiness decisions are needed no matter who the player is otherwise the club will be finished sorry to say.:(

i would love to see richo play on next year so he could get to his 300th game but other than that i dont think he'll be there next season :(

I'd be staggered if Richo isn't lining up next year. Although I s'pose that massive queue of big key forwards might put him off.

id just be happy if the next coach delists, johnson simmons bowden brown pettiffer and jon

and is happy to bite the bullet and trade good players such as shultz tambling and tuck

Nathan Brown still has it

its time to go.....

Pettifer
Sylvester
Simmonds
JON
Johnson
McMahon

Richo is a once in a generation player that keeps a club going and should be allowed to play on next year if HE wants to. He is so Richmond that if genuinely believes that he can't help the side he would be honest enough with himself to step aside.
