new emo VS old emo

Ok, I'm confused, a few years back, emo referred to slightly softer version of punk music.

Quite often these bands were quite good - The Get up Kids, Saves The Day etc and no emo kids wore black or anything, just a few worse those plaid shirts, and some black glasses, but by and large it was very much a part of the punk scene.

But now, I don't actually know what emo is, can anyone tell me? Like, someone name some bands that I hate that are emo.

Your right old emo is far better than any of this new emo fringe crap. Old emo had more of an indie kind of feel to it as well.

Some 'new' emo bands would be Coheed and Cambria, Dashboard Confessional, Story of The Year, Yellowcard, Taking Back Sunday, The Used, Anberlin...well you get the point. I warn you though most of those bands are extremely crap and should be handled with care.

Minor Threat were the far better predecessor to Fugazi. They are not emo in the slightest and neither is Fugazi.

coldplays old stuff is better than their newer stuff and their songs are all starting to sound all the same

Sound the same? That's a weak excuse, you might as well just say, "I don't rate them".

X & Y is a great album, it may not contain as many classics as the first two, but it's still fantastic, better than anything else on offer.
