Thomas Edgar Aus volleyballer

I know we dont need ruckmen but this guy is a beast.
212cm, built like a brick sh1thouse, very athletic, strong, great hand eye coordination.
Can just imagine how precise his tapwork would be, plus the ability to just smash it forward at times.

If i understand the rules properly beacuse we are stealing him from another sport he can go on the list without it costing a spot or being under the salary cap.
So worth throwing some money at him and seeing if hes interested and developing him.

If we were in need of another ruckman i'd definitely say yes, but i feel we have enough ruck depth at the moment with Clarke, Hannath, Moller and Griffin. Although he won't take up a spot on the list i feel that we should be looking for a player that will add depth to an area we need it in. He also seems to be enjoying himself at volleyball, AFL shouldn't have to poach all the good players from all the other sports.

He's 24. A bit late to poach and try and teach a completely different skillset.

like the idea, in fact like the idea as volleyballers as ruckmen.
But i actually think he'd make a good kpd to. Good spoiling ability (Based on those spikes) and you'd assume is athletic enough to keep with big forwards.

Being an Aussie its pretty safe to say he knows the game and has kicked a footy many times before.
So wouldnt be starting from scratch.

Being a volleyballer his tapwork should be awesome
So all thats needed is to work on endurance, kicking skills and understanding of the game.

I think a volleyballer built like him would do better thanthose coming from basketball backgrounds.

Would think surely AFL scouts have approached him before so maybe he isnt interested can travel the world and i hear they get pretty good money in europe playing volleyball.
Doesnt cost us a spot or salary cap so no harm in trying.
His tapwork would be awesome and handing it to our mids on a silver platter.

Keep in mind that he is currently spiking the ball without a 100kg + opposition ruckman smashing into him. Not saying he's not worth a crack but not sure his ruckwork will be as great as some people seem to think.

Heavy support \ strapping on the right knee so he must have an issue with it can somebody enlighten us if he has any long term damage to it .

Comes from Bundaberg, QLD, so odds are the only footy he's ever picked up is a rugby ball.

Pyke came all the way from Canada to play a major roll in a grand final and he hadn't even seen an oval field never mind a Burley or Sheridan.
Im more concerned about his knee support .

Pyke is a pretty big outlier imo. Very few recruits from other sports succeed due to the unique nature of Aussie rules. The ability to read the game is massively understated in comparison to physical stature. Even the strike rate from Gaelic, which at least has its similarities to AFL would be poor.

But hey, no harm in having a crack. You could argue the club already has with the Irish bloke coming over to train with us at the end of the year.

why do we need to poach people from other sports we have enough depth inside afl circles to make up prob another 2 or 3 teams

212cm , built like a brick shithouse , 24 and athletic what's not to like Easty can do some great things with a spike that powerful .

We dont need a ruckman or need to poach guys from other sports but the rules are there that give you a free crack at them and all it costs is your own money and time developing.
Doesnt effect the team list or salary cap at all so things like this are worth it.
If it turns out he can play its a win if he is a dud no big deal.

He is already built solidly enough to handle contact, so with hand and eye coordination like that it wont take long to get used to tapping with contact.
As for knee protection they all wear alot of strapping and protection from what ive seen, but nomrally most volleyball players are the skinny lanky type.
This guy already is built like an experienced ruckman.

If we were to take a risk on some young guy from the draft or AFL system etc it costs a pick and or space on the list/salary cap.
