I went to the Big Bash last night, and got a look at the (yet-to-be-finished) new Members stands.

They're impressive on first sight, because, unlike any previous renovation, they're of a scale never before seen at the SCG.

The top-tier seating is literally head and shoulders above everything else - including the recently-built Trumper Stand. So the SCG is going to it's own little nose-bleed area.

Probably the middle-tier seats would be the best viewing. There's really no difference to the seats at concourse level, except that there might be a few more of them.

I'm looking forward to Round 4 to see how it all works out.

Yeah...it looks impressive. I was at that game as well.

Something tells me the really good seats are the ones on that second tier, but they've been classified as red zone. Some ploy to keep them in the hands of the SCG members perhaps?

I reckon the club should have squeezed a block of reserved gold seating in there somehow.

As for the seats higher than that...all I can say is bring a parachute. The top tier front row seats are about as high as the roof of the O'reilley stand.

What i loved from the walk around video is the facilities. There is actually a choice for the first time. A brewery bar, different food outlets, a members bar. WOW I am going to love this as my mates & I can have after game drinks and discuss the game. We will also have somewhere to go at half time.

Been to the Adelaide oval a couple of times for the Ashes & Big Bash since the southern stand development was finished. Pretty impressed with it and am really looking forward to seeing the new SCG stands and comparing the two.

As a footy ground I don't think Adelaide Oval will be too bad at all. It has that similar 'cricket' feel that the SCG has with a bit of history here & there thrown in. Be interesting to see how similar the 2 will be regarding the newer developments. It's almost like they are becoming 'stadiums' as opposed to 'grounds' but progress is progress I suppose. Bit sad to see some of the old go but keeping them relevent and modern without losing that old world/historical charm will mean they have an advantage over something like Etihad or ANZ which seem a bit lifeless in comparison IMO. I'm not overly keen on the idea of upgrades diminishing what you are there to do (i.e. watch a footy/cricket match) so by having things like the biggest scoreboard/screen or seats so far away you don't have a choice but to watch the massive scoreboard/screen... You might as well be home watching it on the telly. If I'm there live I want to be able to watch the players live not on a screen. I want to feel part of it and if it means we don't upgrade the sh*t out of our stadiums then that's fine by me. Clean, neat, easy to get around and with good views of the ground/pitch are what's important. Not nessecarily seating capacity or being blinded by a scoreboard that uses more energy to run than some towns.

In any event, the new stands are yet another reason for us all to head on out and support the boys every so often this season anyway I reckon.

I have been to Adelaide oval to see lots of footy. It was used by the SANFL as far as I know after Footy Park was built. I have been to many GF's there, I must admit to only one winning one though as The Bays don't win too many. My major problem with the Adelaide Oval is that every time it becomes the premium footy oval the SACA start charging an arm and a leg for use of the facility. I liked Footy Park, a hard as it was to get to, because the playing surface was great, no cricket pitch, and the facilities were really good, bars etc. As you can see I am a bit sus of the SACA as I was following footy when the SANFL decided they NEEDED to own their own ground and not get charged a huge fee for the finals every year by the SACA.

While any improvement is welcome, does anyone else find it a little out of place compared to the other stands?

Haven't been to the ground since the stand was completed, I'm looking forward to checking out the new facilities though, hopefully there'll finally be some decent food available at the ground.

I haven't seen it in person, but the BBL match i watched from the SCG was doing lots of shots of it and it just seemed a little incongruous to the rest of the ground. Perhaps in person will change that, and yes, some better food options are welcome, although I always sit side on, not behind goal.

Me too, I'm keeping my seats on the Oreilley wing.

It's out of place now, but the plan is to have that design replace the oreilly and brewongle stands, so it will be a uniform design except for the members pavilions.
When are the total works expected to be completed over there? Sounds like there's still a fair bit to go.
