Congratulations to Nic Naitanui for overtaking Bontempelli and claiming the top spot in the AFL Player Rating system!

Has been no.1 for a couple of weeks now.
Is actually increasing his lead week on week. He's now 0.7 ahead of Bontempelli and 1.6 ahead of Liberatore in third per game.
Incidentally he averages 4 rating points more per game than Gawn this season.

I believe he has been the highest performer of 2021 for a few weeks but not the overall highest ranked player until this week.

The Brownlow carries too much prestige for an umpire's award.
Coaches Award should be the most prestigious. To be a senior coach you have to be one of the most football knowledgeable people in the game so the player that they think is the best in the comp is probably the best in the comp.

Not sure how often it lines up with the Brownlow though.

Agreed, coaches and player association awards should be of far greater value.

Umpiring keeps falling to new lows in applied standard and consistency with each week - yet somehow the award voted upon by those same inept umpires remains elevated above all others due to nothing more than tradition.

The only problem with the coaches award being the most prestigious is they could vote their own player to boost them up even when they dont deserve it.

Absolutely correct, however, I had observed that until 2020 Simpson was pretty reluctant to give Nic his due and usually quite harsh on him. That's changed dramatically.
Anyway, Naitanui is now 11th in the Coaches Votes overall this season and the no. 1 ruck on the list:

Can we change the name of this thread to something like "Naitanui should be 2021 AA Ruckman"?

And yet some still say Gawn by daylight in the AA thread.

If another ruckman playing for Collingwood had those numbers everyone would cream their pants.
