So 11 years ago from coach whose vintage is no longer around?
He’s referring to Gavin brown in the 1990 gf, so 31 years ago
Yes indeed 31 years ago - the very first season of AFL.

How about Mumford's attempt to smash the first season Grundy at the boundary line ( the cheapest of cheap shots ) - the results were hilarious but the intent was obvious and chilling.

Where do you want to shift the goal posts to now?

Not that it's relevant, odds and averages, and statistics in general are for mathematical fanbois.

In real life it has happened in the past and it will happen again, I'll be a very interested watcher of the two elimination finals this year to see if key players are the victims of 'unfortunate' collisions.

How many contested?
Who gives a shit? Why does every mid need to be a contested beast? We’ve been screaming for an elite inside/outside mid for years and now there’s one falling in our laps, he’s not contested enough? Far out....

I understand what you mean in that he is an outside receiver almost purely atm, looks like we will need someone to feed him at center bounces.

Is good at finding it in transition by the looks kinda pendles in style more then a burst mid like Buckley was or as good at the contested stuff as Bucks but to be fair neither was Buckley early days he added that later.

Is clean and smart user mostly, think he had a few nothing 5m kicks in the first q under pressure.

He has been ignored for the handball recieve and a few leads in space a lot so we need to take in account this AA team is not gelling that well (seems to be distinct waxing between grps Horne ignored ND a few times in space only to butcher the kick) and that Geelong opponents are very well drilled and physically developed in comparison.

Positives.
Gets across the ground well.
Positions himself as an option often. At AFL level will get used more where as being ignored alot by fellow aa teammates looking to shine.
Generally clean by foot.
Directing traffic and vocal.
Reliable possession winner in general play.
Looks like he will be a good mid in style of Kelly (gws) or Pendles.

Some areas i saw of concern for me others may disagree;
Is very outside and I'm mean very wants to be the receiver 100% of the time.
Doesn't look to like contact.
As a compare Josh Daics much more willing in the contest even as a jnr imo when others considered him outside.
Doesn't seem to be able to make himself space in traffic like Josh has shown he can with backwardsand sidewards weaves.
Shot on goal struggled to make distance from about 42m (fatigue?).
Not sure of ability to burst from traffic is there.
Gives opponent (narkle q1) a lot of rope.
So far hasn't shown an xfactor quality that J.Daicos has at times displayed.

Not a bad summary. There are some areas of improvement. You might say flaws, but any negative comments about ND on here are viewed as sacrilege and may get you virtually stoned.

I do have concerns this kid is being overly hyped. He is clearly good at receiving the pill and using it in space. To be the out-and-out champion we hope he will be it is his inside work that we determine that. It appears on limited viewing to be his greatest weekness at the moment.

As good as his potential is, he will take time. At the moment I doubt he will make the instant impact some are hoping, perhaps even expecting.

If by realist you mean every single comment is a negative then yes you're a realist.
Ironic that he criticises others consistently for being too negative.

Cause he needs an inside game if he is going to be the champion we hope he will become.

‘yes he can be an outside only player, but that isn’t a top 10 pick.

Having watched his father live from the start of his career and overlaying Nick's play I have no real doubts that - if properly managed and developed - he will make it and make it big.
Your point on time is a dead center meat in the pot hit.
Even Peter took a little time to round out his precocious talent.

What are you going on about he got 6 clearances and you are worried about him not having an inside game?

Funny how people use numbers to support the argument that Nick did well, but then argue numbers don’t matter when judging other players they don’t like, or even despise.

It wasn’t the possessions he won that I was watching, it was the stoppages that he was watching that I noticed. Was a virtual none participant in many of them. Very passive.

He does have an inside game, but he’s more of a receiver right now which is unsurprising given his relatively light frame. He’s exactly the type we need, smart, knows where the ball will be going, and amazingly good on the spread. No idea why people like you have to try and nitpick.

I don’t understand why this kid cannot be discussed objectively. He is not the complete package yet, and nobody expected him to be. Are we only allowed to shine sunshine up his ..... Any negative comments are forbidden.

When your opening post contains ‘he’s spudding it up’, you lose the right to claim you’re discussing things objectively.

It was tongue in cheek. It was made in the first 10 minutes of the game. The reaction has been laughable.

The real objective comments I made been after the game. From what I have seen in this and other games, he needs to work on his inside work and stoppage craft. He appears to me to be too passive.

‘Am I allowed to say that, or is that too negative?

He reminds me a bit of O'Meara as a junior. Seen him play a few times now and it's pretty clear he can play the outside role in his sleep. Absolute natural. Links up, smart usage, will fit in at AFL level. So I hope in his development this year he tries to work on the inside a little more and not instinctively skirt the packs. I don't need him to become and inside mid it's not going to be his go at AFL level, but the more tricks he learns winning the ball in close the better, because he has the other side covered.

All elite players at AFL lvl have an inside game and can win 1v1 (sometimes 1v2) in the heat and often clear the traffic.

I agree with others now after seeing him imo he would be better served playing in our VFL team learning to deal with the physical side vs men and improve his contested side (bringing balance to his game). Then staying in nab league being able to free-wheel in a mile of space.
