Yes ****en captain when teh rest of the side said **** this i want to play like a woman it was only him toovey and beams that said come on at least ****en try.

He is now paying the price for making the AFL look stupid, bloke cant do a thing without getting pinged

What are you going to do about it now?

Absolutely nothing. He is the captain of the Collingwood Footbal Club. Chosen by the players & staff at the club, not us.

If you don't like it, GTFO.

No one is saying he doesn't have heart. He does! It's why he holds his place. It's why they made him Captain. But is it enough?
Yes for **** sake

When the team is at its lowest ebb, its captain should be the one fighting with gritted teeth trying to show the way.

maxwell was one of the few fighting

All you Nick Maxwell haters only have to wait till MM is gone, then Maxwell wont be Captain.

Until then we will all have to put up with it, not that a better captain wouldve made much difference tonight.

Go and get ****ed.

If everyones get their way and either Williams or buckley become coach Maxwell will stay captain. Why? because buckley wanted him as captain last year and williams rates maxwell highly thats why port and richmond offered him contracts to walk out on us in 07

Learn the game, you bunch of snivelling sooks

Who gives a crap! Maxwell is the captain but does not have a god like hold over the group, at all clubs several players are leaders and motivators and the Captain tag is merely a title and nothing more, Bucks was a brilliant captain but when he missed games we still played well and won games, Maxy will have some average games as he is not the most talent ladened player going round but to attribute it to the teams over all performance is uneducated and short sighted.

Are you kidding? Nick Maxwell is great. He has a heart of a champion. Doesn't give up. He's aggressive and doesn't pussy out at a challenge. I love this guy, he may not have natural talent but he has courage and the willingness to get better and keep going.

He does have determination, but I share the POV of the OP ... is that enough?

Or is it just a demonstration of the lack of leadership at our club?

He's not the most talented, not the most intelligent either, but he is a hard nut, deadly loyal (very rare to find in today's $$$ AFL e.g. Judd) and has a lot of heart.

Having said that, we recently lost one of the best captains of our club in over 100 years of existence (Buckley), so we would be making the mistake in trying to compare any new captain to him. And we shouldn't be expecting to replace Buckley with another Buckley, it's simply impossible.

I think Pendlebury will make a great long-term captain, and I hope he eventually gets the gig.

He wouldn't have been my choice for reasons that have been rehashed a million times on this board, but what's done is done. Don't see much point revisiting it every time we play like crap.

And Optimax, why don't you just relax?

He will be quite good at the role. One bad night does not make for a bad career. If he has the character I believe he has, he will use tonight's result as a motivator for himself and the team.

And that is exactly his role.

I can handle a bad night. I can handle the captain contributing to it. I thought Maxwell as captain was a well thought through decision. What I cannot abide is the sooking that he does when a decision goes against him. It sh*ts me to tears. What I don't want is a whinger for a captain. Its something he can change and needs a kick in the rear to do so.

Umpires don't change their decisions because you start to cry.

And Optimax, why don't you just relax?

don't worry about optimax he's just doing a Maxwell because we lost

don't worry

I DO NOT THINK MAXWELL IS FIT TO CLEAN A CAPTAINS BOOT. There i said it, and to be honest you guys telling me to "GTFO" and "STFU" can get stuffed. This is my club just as much as it is yours and if im not happy about the way things are going then i have every right to speak out, just as you have every right to defend.

Again, the second we lose the same old scape goats.

All you whinging about Maxwell please supply a list of players who contributed last night singling out which would best replace Maxwell.

An across the board lame effort from all.

I'm not refering to last night specifically im talking more about the guys in here telling others to "GTFO" because they don't think Maxwell is a suitable captain.

He's not the most talented, not the most intelligent either...

Something about 'Ye who cast the first stone'...?!? That was truly patronising and goes to show you're 'supporting' the club from arms-length.

When you say 'talented' I'm assuming you're talking about the 'oooh' and 'aaaah' factor of the footy spectacle, not the hard yards he puts in chasing, tackling, spoiling, physical pressure and wearing his opponent down.

When you say 'intelligent' I'm also guessing you've not read much of what he writes, how he involves himself as a mentor, as a businessman and how his approach to work and life puts to shame many of us years older.

Have a whinge about last night's game, sure, but this kind of personal attack is completely unnecessary.

Oh, come on.

Even Maxwell's most ardent supporters wouldn't say he's a 'talented' AFL footballer. As for intelligence, I imagine Ant85 was referring to 'footy intelligence' -- that's how I read it, anyway. You may not agree with this characterisation of Maxwell, but to cast it as a 'personal' attack is being deliberately obtuse.
