Oh...he tries hard.

Don't care.

The amount of times his direct opponent marked the ball while Maxwell was trailing behind, the amount of times he fumbled in Carlton's 50 was shocking.

Couldn't give a crap if he tries hard, so don't bring it up. Fact is, he isn't good enough.

Drop him. I've said it for weeks on end, he continues to prove me right.

Edit: Yes, I realised I mispelt the title.

Re: Nicm Maxwell

One of the worst players going IMO.
To think he was considered 4 the captaincy and was given bucks number must annoy some pie fans.

It does.

And to think thats what the number 5 served up in Buckley Week.

Embarrassing.

Yeah! Go on blame Maxwell....D*ckhead thread, D*ckhead comment.
Maxwell was one of our better defenders.

Even Mark_T and Big Bucks will have to agree if they watched the game.

You can't always blame the same player when we get beaten.

He was not our best but was certainly not our worst either.

that doesn't mean his not a useless footballer though. I just hope we have someone to replace him with, thats how weak our depth is.

Are you kidding me? Are you serious?

I don't know how people cannot see how poorly he plays at times.

He cut off some leads nicely at times, but that is IT.

Every time he has a direct opponent he gets torn a new hole by them. Add to that his fumbles and poor disposal.

How can you see him as one of our better performed defenders?

Re: Nicm Maxwell

aaaaaand after I posted that, you edit out the part I quoted from your post. Super.

Re: Nicm Maxwell

Tries to compensate for his rubbish skills and talent by throwing his weight around. A useless hack, and an absolute disgrace to the number 5. Couldn't have picked a worse day for such a rubbish performance.

a couple of weeks ago iwould agree with you on this. but what about o'brien and brown, what a joke they are, the only time fev didnt mark it was when maxwell was the third man in.

Right....but the difference is Brown and O'Brien were on Fev. Maxwell is never on players of that caliber.

Brown held his own one on one at times, overall both him and Harry were dominated, but be fair, they usually beat their man. Fev is just a freak.

Re: Nicm Maxwell

Nick Maxwell had close to zero impact on this game either way.

We lost this game for 3 reasons:
- The players who got a lot of the ball made shocking decisions.
- The ruckwork was abysmal.
- Ben Reid's inclusion killed our patented forward-line pressure.

Neither Maxwell, nor O'Brien, nor Brown had anything to do with this loss. Nothing whatsoever.

Doesn't change the fact he just plain is not good enough.

Re: Nicm Maxwell

i think maxwell has to be dropped atm he just isnt up to it.... yeah browny and harry got absoulty smashed by fev today but showed that MM didnt even have the faith to try maxwell on him... he needs to go back to the vfl and get rid of his tryhard hardman act and learn at winning the ball

Re: Nicm Maxwell

I worry that your first instinct after a bad loss is to make a thread about a player who had very little to do with the loss. The merits/negatives of Maxwell have been debated ad nauseum. It smells of "we lost...I don't know why...time for a Maxwell sux thread".

Re: Nicm Maxwell

He performance today would border upon being cringe worthy.

His constant fumbling and disposal errors (stupid handballs that result in turnovers) are glaring proof of why he isn't good enough for this level.

People always put it down to others just 'being Maxwell bashers', but there is obviously a reason why such a large majority think he is sh*t.

Maybe it is because he actually is sh*t?

Zero clangers today, so try again.

He fumbled it a shitload today, but he also got a few punches in. Overall a bad game, but far from the worst.

I'm a lot more disgusted when I see Johnson, Thomas and Swan repeatedly butcher the ball going forward, allowing Carlton to clear quickly and get Fevola one out.

Re: Nicm Maxwell

I understand how all the Maxwell lovers admire his effort and how he goes about his game but the simple fact is he isn't good enough.

We will never win a premiership with players of Maxwell calibre, he goes hard at it but when you are lacking skill and hurt factor you better be silky skilled or provide heaps of rebound, neither of which Maxwell does, he simply isn't good enough and is a very ordinary player.

Pretty sure I said 'result' in turnovers, and seeings how clangers are so subjective and judged by a statistician, I'll go with my own judgement.

Clangers are direct turnovers, I didn't say he blatantly turned it over by hand, but on multiple occasions handballs from him that were ineffective and wayward, resulted in turnovers.
They may not count as a clanger, but since when were clangers and stats the be all and end all?

Observant people certainly don't need stats to see poor old Nick ain't up to AFL standard.

Yeah, stats are just a crutch for those not blessed with your hawk-like observation skillz.

Seriously, how about actually discussing the game and not rehashing the usual Maxwell stuff.

Don't even try that on. I've been calling for Maxwell to be dropped.

After the Geelong game I said he should be dropped, I was greeted with a chorus of

We won! Stop complaining!!
Why would you drop someone?? We Played well!!!

If I can't criticize him after a loss, and I can't do it after a win, when can I?

You're missing the point. Also, you'll never hear me say "we won, stop complaining" or anything even close to that.

I'm all for you calling for his head if;

a) he's one of the main reasons we lost
b) his form has been consistently shit

Neither a) or b) is remotely true, so I don't see why the thread was started. He's been good 3 out of the last 4 weeks (esp. against Melbourne where he was in the best) and I could name at least 8 players who were more responsible for today's loss.

Re: Nicm Maxwell

While I thought Maxwell was good last week (I gave him votes), I can't agree that he was good in three of the last four weeks.

Basically, I agree with his critics. Regardless of how poorly he did or didn't play today, he's not up to it. He repeatedly gets beaten one on one by his own man and isn't effective enough as a zone-off defender.

Hopefully Goldsack or Anthony can force him out of the side.

Re: Nicm Maxwell

he has a crack, but honestly were do they expect him to end up? What sort of player is Nick Maxwell going to be for Collingwood in the long term? Key position? Clements old quaterback type role? Run off half back? I mean seriously how much better to they think he is gonna get? He can't run with the little guys, he can't muscle the big guys, dispostal is average, reads the play poorly, where the hell does he fit into the future of the footy club?
