And Luke Ball broke down in the second quarter with a thigh/quad injury, so you can now see why were ****ed late in the game.

ON reflection Matty and listening to MMs presser, there is nothing we could of done about this years injuries and lack of luck. It's not like we had a spate of soft tissue injuries or injuries that could have been effected by training methods. We had hand injuries, ribs etc. and again in the game today. The ball popped out to Geelong players in their goal square - Maxwell and Ball injuries. Didak couldn't tackle this year following a serious operation pre season. I would not be surprised if Jolly was injured in the match too as distinct from him playing with an injury. On that note Jolly lowering his colors slightly to an inform Brad Ottens and West is not surprising. He gets nothing from the umpires anyway.
We have all seen Swanny play and the only time I have ever seen him play like today is with an injury.
So Matty our luck run out with injuries this year but the good thing is they weren't something we had or have any control over.
Not making excuses just justifying belief that luck plays a huge part when you are a talented side and have a formidable equal opponent such as Geelong. We accounted for the rest of the competition with sheer guts and determination.

Just Shows Luck can help a Team win the Flag

Luck plays a part in every Flag Dave, you're doomed without it, look at the Hawks, they clearly would have beaten us with a healthy list.

FWIW I don't think the Cats had a clean bill of health either.

I think it's safe to say the footy gods just weren't with us this year unlike last year where Leroy kicked that magical goal out of nowhere in the Prelim.

Anthony Stevens got the same injury as Didak in the 99 GF & showed up fit in r.1 in 2000, which was the start of March, no big deal. You lot have made excuses for him all year, face the facts, he's finished.

Piss off from our board.

Last year he averaged 25 and kicked 40 goals, I'm willing to back him in for another year if you don't mind, if an essendon player had numbers like that there would be a ticket tape parade. w***er!!

Oh, and enjoy your card BTW.

I can see a lot of parallels between Essendon in 2001 and Collingwood this year. We went into a granny with loads of injuries, were competitive for much of the game, but were eventually overrun in the last quarter and a half.

The difference is that 2001 was the end of an era for us, whereas Collingwood have a youthful team and will be a contender next season.

I think we went in worse than Geelong regarding injuries, the lack of games our best 22 played together really hurt us which is unlike last year where the side hardly changed at all.

And a lot has been said from the CFC about how important it is to have depth and 30 players ready and roles and etc. but what I've realised is that it really only applies to the 15-22 players. Take Reid and Jolly for example, both went in around 60-70% but instead of replacing them we had to take them in because they are higher than 15.

You have no idea. Didak never had a preseaon and was injured multiple times during the year. It's pretty much the same year he had in 2007 when he missed the preseason. Then he backed it up with nearly being AA in 2008.

Maxwell has had a horror year injury wise. In the preseason he busts his ribs, then he has calf injuries, breaks this thumb, hurts his ribs again and then breaks his kuckle in the GF!
