Nineteen year-old Ryan graduated from the Under 18 Premier Cup squad and made an instant impression, kicking 34 goals in 13 games in the Premier Division competition this year.

Round 19- Nick Ryan

Nick has become an Essendon Scholarship holder since then but his development was severely restricted in 2010 when injury kept him to two games for the season.

Interesting that he plays for St George, and not North Shore. Would've thought it'd make sense to foster that partnership.

from what i read a ruckman forward, in Hilles decline it wouldnt hurt to rookie list him, just in case. His next step would be to play in the VFL so why not?

We already have a scholarhips rookie in Webster at the moment but Ryan souns like a promising type as well...

We can't rookie all of them so I get the feeling Webster will be moved on then... didint do much for bendigo this year

Well actually, since they are NSW scholarship players we can. Webster is currently outside the list and we can have at least 3 in the same category. I don't know the limit, but I know you can have at least 3.

So we could have Ryan, Tweeddale and Webster as rookies and not take up a single "official" slot - on either the senior or rookie list. Given that Darcy is retiring and the questions on Gumby, I think effectively getting two talls to trial out outside our list is something we should jump at. No matter how long the odds are on either*.

* Not saying the odds are long, wouldn't have a clue personally. Although some of the reading does make it sound like Tweeddale actually has some pretty useful tools that could be developed.

As far as I can make out, with Webster going after a year, the list of successful NSW picks is still Taylor Walker, and the list of misses is about 10.

Don't get your hopes up too high, kids.

Craig Bird?

Last I'd heard Jedd Clothier has shown great promise too....although he's a couple of years younger.

They're all guns.

Until they arrive, and most of them don't shape up.
Rangi Ericthehalfabeerama anyone? So much teeth gnashing that the Cats got that gun past everyone... Shae McNamara the big american freak who was going to revolutionise the sport? Gawn...

That's certainly a good indication of my point, 2 good VFL games + not from normal draft = WOWSERS FUTURE STAR.

We'll see how he sits compared to peers 2-3 years down the track; until then I'll continue my mild scepticism.

Was wondering about the scholarship guys recently. Looked up Nick Ryan and found he has kicked 54 goals so far this season, but I'm more interested in if anyone has any info on Clothier?
