Just wanted to float an idea to see if this could work

Could Steven's have an asking price of say 1 million a year to price all other teams out of the market, Collingwood then picks him up and re-negotiates that figure? (in essence screwing all other clubs)

hmmmm yes i guess it could, dunno about the negotiations but even if not we could just sign him for 1 year, then next year he plays for like 100k to make up for this year

i wouldnt be suprised if that scotland deal with carlton had something to do with them letting stevens through

What deal did Collingwood strike up with the other 14 club's ahead of them in the PSD?

Why wouldnt the Tiger's take him or the Demon's?

because u have to be able to fit him in your cap

collingwood have ****loads of cap room more then 90% of clubs and if stevens nomiantes 1mil a year for 5 years as the price on his head what club would take him?

but if they have a secret plan to renegotiate his contract after they draft him it'd work a treat, it could be a goer does anyone know if its posible?

apparently whatever price Stevens puts on his own head has to be included in the salary cap, So If the Pies can afford alot in this years salary cap sign him for one year on the privision that he signed for alot less after that year.

After Choc didn't trade him to the team of his choice I am sure Stevens won't have a hard time being convinced to screw Port Adelaide (who knows maby this is the already in the works)

Clutching at straws now but HEY!!!

now how does this pre-season draft work coz last year we picked up luke mullins with i think pick 8? now we didnt came 9th so how does it work?

p.s. the press are saying carlton will pick up stevens in the pre-season, the hunch im getting from all sources is that there in fact WAS an agreement in the trade which really looked like:

CARLTON GET: Scotland
C'WOOD GET: Pick 35, Assurance that the blues wont pick up Stevens.

Scotland whilst we are rapt to get him would not be adequate compensation for Stevens. As long as the doggies take Rawlings, Stevens will be wearing blue next season.

Hey Rusty,Thanks for the brilliant deduction, you goose.
So you are trying to tell us that the mighty Blues are that full of talent that they wouldnt have these 2 players in the same team and that the other 14 clubs have that much respect for Collingwood that they would also pass up Stevo, instead we would do our very good friends Collingwood a huge favour and pass on Stevens you miserable feral bunch maybe if you threw Neon Leon as a sweetner :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

the preseason draft works by each club that is willing and able to accommodate a player on their list does so
last year the pies werent goin to be in it until carl steinfort retired, leaving a spot open on the list, which was filled by luke mullins
other clubs such as stkilda, richmond, essendon etc. didnt have a pick because either they had a full list, or salary cap restraints, or maybe just didnt want to use it
stevens wont get to the pies
what were they thinkin with scotland, im disappointed

Ignorance is bliss, eh? Why don't you look at the hard ball gets stats? While your at it look at the tackle stats as well. I bet you won't find any Melbourne players above him. Still, you wouldn't know because we managed to belt you guys without him every year anyway.

i must concede that he will in fact be wearing navy blue next year

Why were Melbourne going after him?
You blokes don't need Stevens, he's a receiver and you've already got a bunch of them, Yze, Johnstone, Bruce, Heffernan and so on. The only players in the red and the blue with any real balls are Neitz, McDonald and perhaps the Vacuum man, Godfrey.

Maybe we'll trade him to you at the end of next season? For your first-round pick and Didak (just to irritate Port) :)

id almost do that just to stick it up port

Stevens will look very nice in Navy Blue
up yours culling-scum hope you weep when we beat you round 22 to keep you out of the top 4.

Carn the blues

Weep? Tears of laughter maybe. Seriously how good do you think Stevens is True_Blue? Good enough to get off the bottom?

MarkT,

If you supported a team that has become the laughing stock of all football codes you would clutch at straws too. It doesn't matter that Stevens couldn't win a premiership with good players around him, he is gonna do it with rejects from other clubs as teammates.

Carlton are no doubt the recruiting champs, with Brett Johnson, that star of Box Hill and most overpaid VFL player ever Daniel Harford, Heath Scotland, the darlings of Port Melbourne Digby Morrell and David Teague, Ashley McGrath's older brother (what a claim to fame) Corey and of course the forgotten champion from Geelong David Clarke. These players are going to take Carlton from the bottom to a top 2 finish and a grand final berth just like they did for their old clubs.

Yeah, right!!!

Gee I wonder if this has been done before?
A player comes out of Port Adelaide and is forced into the draft.
He signs a one year contract with a club. The contract stipulates that at the years end the player will be cleared to the club of his choice.
I seem to remember this from somewhere!

A thing to be cherished Murray. Lets Stevos deal looks like this.

Nominates for 1 year contract at 800.000 to keep everyone away.
Collingwood pick him up and the deal looks like this.

Year1 800.000
Year2 100.000
Year3 100.000
Year4 200.000

That gives him his 1.2 over 4 years which is what collingwood and he were going to do. viola
