You need a feck load of degrees in micro biology.
But, his job on Friday's, I shi'ite you not, was to go into the tasting room, where they bring out abiout 20 'demis', and a sheet with all these various tastes - lemony, sweet, bitter, peppery and so on - and they'd have sip of each one, and mark down what it tasted like and what beer from the range it was ... for quality control.
Because beer acts on the tastebuds differently to wine, they actually had to swallow to fully get the taste. So by about 12.30, he'd have drunk the equivalent of three or four pints. Then, it being France, they'd head out for a nice long boozy lunch on the company, as they couldn't legally do any work for the rest of the day as they had alcohol over a certain level in their systems.
Sadly he has retired now ...
