still $100 on PSN, although I'm sure I could get it cheaper elsewhere of course. Very tempted but very broke

I'm whipping through my backlog in the lead up to D2, otherwise I'd jump on it too.

Get on the demo Beerfish, gameplay should hook you in.

I’ve finally started getting my teeth into this properly this week after I got it ages ago after way too many good recommendations. Kicking myself for not getting into it sooner but it just got away from me. Really enjoying it but just wanted to say how messed up I think the story is. The whole thing is just creepy. I never played the previous Drakengard PS2 stuff that Nier is supposed to come from but I looked a bit up and Nier doesn’t seem to come close to how weird that got but the robots and some of the quests are quite twisted. It’s a strange one because combat and general game systems wise it’s pretty standard meat and potatoes but the world and the story it ties in make it above a cut above so many similar games.

Finished it last night. By finished I mean completed the first playthrough. Thought it was good but not great. I understand that you need to play it multiple times to really appreciate it, but my backlog (hello Persona 5, you're next in line) tells me it's time to move on.

You're missing about 60% of the game.

When you say finished the first playthrough, you haven’t. The three routes form one playthrough. You don’t play the same thing three times.

Currently playing through route B and im hoping route C changes things up substantially or I'm out.

Just finished the forest section and theres been very minor differences to route A. Feels like I'm playing the same thing over again.

Route B is definitely the games weakest aspect. Route C makes it all worthwhile.

Yep you guys were right, game steps it up and delivers big time. Combat mechanics weren't the deepest (that's platinum for ya) but the story more than made up for it.

Feel bad for not giving it a proper go last year. Would've been top 5 on my 2017 list, top 3 had route B either not existed or didnt repeat so much of route A's content.

Also best devs for letting us buy the remaining trophies, grinding would've ruined the experience. I'll take the platinum for 24 hours of playtime.

Very similar to my own thoughts. The shortest way I could sum up my own experience was I loved the combat and gameplay loop at the start (routes A & B) but found the story a bit flat at times (but had its moments), though by the time the story really shined (route C) I was actually a bit burned out on everything else after two near identical runs.
